Melbourne Times Article

The following article was published in this week's Melbourne Times and it needs to be clarified that Jennifer Borrell is not a member of Hidden Creek Neighbourhood House as per the membership list that was endorsed at the October 2013 committee meeting.

As it stands Hidden Creek Neighbourhood House has been closed down and the committee is winding up the organisation. This has been done because it was one of the recommendations put forward by an independent investigator.

If you have recently received a letter that claims that it is from the current committee you need to know that it is not the committee that sent you that letter and those people should not have had access to the old membership list and your privacy has been breached.

Hidden Creek Neighbourhood House future uncertain

The future of the Hidden Creek Neighbourhood House (HCNH) in Coburg North remains uncertain following its sudden closure last month.
Staff and volunteers at the house, which runs programs for seniors and kids, were told by HCNH’s management committee on March 11 that the house would close.
Committee chairwoman Maxine West said the decision to close the house was based on the findings of an independent investigation, which was undertaken to address a number of concerns raised about how the house was run.
“Our committee received the investigation report and the supporting documents and the recommendations,” she said, “one of these being to wind up the association.”
Ms West said although the committee was reluctant to close the house, the evidence in the report made it very clear that “we could do nothing other than wind up”.
“We felt it would have been negligent and morally irresponsible to do anything else,” she said.
The house’s co-ordinator stood down before the closure.
Ms West would not comment further on the findings of the investigation.
Jennifer Borrell, a stories researcher at the house and a member of the committee, said that she was excluded from the vote to close the house and was shocked by the decision.
“The house is running well on paper and by all the accounts of all the people who run the house regularly,” she said.
Ms West said the decision to close was made by “all committee members who are endorsed members of Hidden Creek and elected as per [the] annual general meeting held on November 2013 and [who] did not have a direct conflict of interest”.
HCNH is partially funded by the Department of Human Services, Moreland City Council and other grants. The council is also HCNH’s landlord.
Moreland City Council social development director Andrew Day said the council was aware the HCNH had experienced a range of governance and administrative tensions “over many years”.
“Council is still working through these matters in conjunction with the Department of Human Services, and is considering options to obtain clarity on these issues and to broker a way forward, while respecting the independence of the committee,” he said.

Bush Tucker Planting this Saturday on the Merri Creek

After such a lovely wet week MECCARG are hoping that the ground will be perfect for planting this Saturday down on the Merri Creek.

We have many murnongs and bulbines to plant in preparation for eating at this year's Murnong Gathering in November.

We will be at the usual spot near the Murray Rd bridge at the usual time of 1-3 this Saturday May 3rd.

We hope to see you there!

Friends of Edgars Creek

Hi Members and friends,

Thank you to Rob, Stephen and FoEC's wonderful volunteers for a stella effort in glorious conditions on Sunday. The M9 site at the concrete channel has grown exponentially with almost 500 plants in the ground. A big thanks also to Moreland City Council - Vince - for the supply of mulch on the site. We will be planting at the footbridge again later this year in another mulched area (thanks again Vince) and in 2015 we extend the M9 site to the footbridge with our new Melbourne Water Community grant (hopefully a new bridge by then!). I can't wait to walk through this area in 3-4 years!!!

FoEC and Merri Creek Management Committee have an upcoming promotional event that will coincide with our next planting event on the 18/05/2014. We will be planting at the Silurian Cliff site 1-3.00 PM. Before that, there will be a Melbourne Water supported event at the Edgars Creek Reserve, off Ronald Street, North Coburg(Melways 18 A9) on Sunday 18th May, 10am-12noon. Queries can be addressed to - Jane on 93808199 or email

Our new neighbours at the Coburg Hill estate are being letter dropped to promote the event and hopefully they will join us for a free cup of coffee (we will have a coffee van on site) and the Friends of Edgars Creek will be on site. Hopefully you all know the great work our Friends do and that a few of the "new locals" will get to see the work we do or at least just come down and enjoy the Edgars Creek Reserve.

See you on the creek!

New Moon HEART Radiance Meditation

New Moon HEART Radiance Meditation

8pm Tuesday 29th April - 13 Wattle Grove Reservoir.

Join together in a unified field of Love and Grace to re-set your Heart centred intention and blessing for all in your life.

(Sitting meditation only this time as I have sprained my ankle and cannot do the standing components).

RSVP Please contact Viirendra:

   Mobile: 0417 581 829
   Facebook: 'Viirendra Ra'

Or search for ‘HEART Radiance’ Group on Facebook
HEART Radiance:

Opening into the Heart of Oneness
Relax your Body, Clear your Mind, Live from the Heart

‘HEART Radiance’ is a simple but potent process that can be used any time, any place to activate the Heart Energy and to radiate Love and Grace into your surroundings.

In addition to creating a deep sense of fulfilment within the self, the frequency of your surroundings is also raised leading to profound effects within your life.

The HEART Radiance Program includes:
12 Immortals – Chi Kung longevity exercise
The Tree – Standing meditation merging with the energies of Nature
Resonant Tuning – Sitting meditation absorbing energies from Earth and Cosmos to open the Heart and allow Divine Love and Grace to flow through

The acronym ‘H.E.A.R.T.’ means Healing Energy and Awareness with Resonant Tuning.  The Healing of our physical Energy and our conscious Awareness takes place through the process of Resonant Tuning.

The abdominal and head key chakra centres are stimulated in such a way that the heart chakra is allowed to open fully and naturally accompanied by a host of benefits.
The abdominal chakra is the centre for our physical and also emotional Energy.  When we experience an emotion we do not like we often try to stop it thus blocking this Energy motion (E-motion).  This blocked energy can then impact upon our physicality.  Through the process of Resonant Tuning we program our energy body to allow our energy preference of EASE and FLOW.

The head chakra governs our thoughts and our Awareness.  In this fast paced world where we are bombarded with external stimuli our thought space can become overwhelmed with the multitude of thoughts we could be having.  Our attention can become scattered and our energy dissipated leading to stress and anxiety.  Resonant Tuning allows SPACIOUSNESS and FREEDOM within our thought space.

Newlands Meditation in May

Hi All,

And welcome to Term 2. I hope you all had a lovely break.

For the month of May meditation sessions will be as follows:

Friday 2nd May:
9.30am – 11.00am at 13 Meadow Street.
Mindfulness and Meditation sessions for Parents (or carers) with babies and toddlers.
Meet like minded families and learn some simple mindfulness and meditation techniques you can practice with babies and toddlers around. Please come along up to 15 minutes early to settle in and stay around after for a cup of tea.
In this session we will practice some mindfulness techniques, we will participate in an activity that is all around connecting with your small person in a mindful way, we will have a couple of short activities focusing on the small people and a meditation for the adults – with interruptions expected and welcome.  The cost is $20 per family.

Friday 9th May
9.30-10.30 at 13 Meadow Street.
Mindfulness and Meditation for all – no experience necessary.
This is an adult session.  We will be continuing a focus on the chakras (which we started last term in the 7.30am group but prior knowledge is not necessary – all welcome). The cost is $15 per person.

Monday 26th of May
4.30 – 5pm at 13 Meadow Street
Kids meditation.
This is a free trial session and I am looking for some kids  (to be accompanied by a parent)  aged 4-12 who would be interested in learning some mindfulness and meditation techniques.

Please RSVP at if you can make it along to these sessions so I know approximate numbers to expect.  Also please help me by forwarding this email to family and friends who may be interested.

Friends of Edgars Creek

Hi Members and friends,

It is with great anticipation that I email for the first time in 2014 to say we are planting on Sunday! I love planting and am 'champing at the bit' to get my hands dirty and commence another season of revegetation work (though the behind the scenes work doesn't stop - you have to prepare to plant!.

We will be going at our usual time, 1-3.00PM Sunday the 27th April at the M9 Watermain site immediately in the vicinity of Ronald Street. Rob and I will be on site earlier as so if the later time doesn't work for you feel free to catch us earlier in the day (perhaps shoot me an email to let me know and I can make arrangements to help). We are working on an extension of our last planting of 2013 and this includes grasses, shrubs and a few trees. The weather forecast looks great - Sunny and 19 degrees.

Looking forward to seeing you on the creek!

PPL VIC: East West Link Final Day of Hearing and Our Community Group Submission 6

Dear Protectors of Public Lands Victoria Inc.members and friends

1. Please find attached the closing submission made today by Mr. Tom Pikusa, our legal Counsel, on behalf of Community Groups. It is in word and pdf formats. Today was the final day of the hearing.

2. As you are probably aware, the Royal Park Protection Group Inc and the Protectors of Public Lands Victoria Inc. were instructed by the Victorian Planning Panels Review Committee to undertake opening and closing statements on behalf of those community groups making submissions to the hearing. See the excellent executive summaries of 14 Community groups in addition to RPPG and PPL VIC and of 2 individual submitters. The groups are mainly from the municipalities of Melbourne, Moonee Valley, Moreland and Banyule.

3. See the disturbing new information contained in Land Requirements in Ross Straw Field from 274 to 279.

4. We were aghast to learn today that a large area of the south of Princes Park is right now being been fenced off to permit work to be started on "developing" the area for formal sport. A sign has gone up in Princes Park saying that the Park will be off limits until the end of the year while it is being upgraded to accommodate more clubs " due to the East West Link" (The reference is to clubs who will be dispossessed when the Ross Straw Field in West Parkville is being taken over for the EW Link construction.) It is an outrage that the alienation of Princes Park and work on the East West Link preempts the finding of the Review Committee on the East West Link and the Minister's decision. .

5. Our thanks go to our brilliant legal Counsel Mr. Tom Pikusa. During the course of the 6 week hearing, he not only made the PPL VIC and RPPG presentation but the opening and closing submissions on behalf of the community groups. He attended every day of the hearing and made invaluable contributions to the questioning of expert witnesses in cooperation with Councils' legal teams. The Review Committee Chair made a special point of thanking him (plus his clients ie us!) today. Thanks also to all those opponents of the East West Link who attended the hearing and gave us support in our mission to expose what is undoubtedly the most destructive, costly and backward looking (to the sixties) road project ever to see the light of day in Melbourne.
