Saturday 2 August, 7pm, $5, All ages 0-101+ are welcome (minors with guardian)
The not for profit venue Coburg RSL is holding its 4th music Band Night on Saturday 2 August, a unique ALL ages experience where no one is too OLD or YOUNG. The club does not rely on pokies for its revenue, so the Coburg RSL is developing this Band Night to connect with the community. A special spotlight is put on independent, young/new, up and coming acts. On the first Saturday of every month, Mrs Barb Wire (our fantastic MC) and the friendly staff/volunteers of the Coburg RSL will wend you down a path full of happy surprises, not least of which is the 'Spam Raffle'. This month brings another amazing lineup of talented artists. Come along and you are in for a treat!
Tangrams
Formed in Melbourne in 2012, Tangrams draw on influences ranging from the sonic-crooning of Scott Walker and Nancy Sinatra, to the syncopated distortion of Big Black and New Order. Their songs entwine male and female vocals, thudding rhythms and spasmodic guitar lines doused with reverb. Tangrams have recently released their first studio recording; a 5-track EP titled 'Waves'. Have a listen and come see!tangramssound.bandcamp.com/
Popolice
Marc Regueiro-Mckelvie  plays loud and passionate guitar noise drenched power pop songs. He’s a poet and a master of distortion. A great mix in our book. Mess+Noise says “Popolice [is music which] makes you fall in love with guitar all over again. Marc Regueiro-Mckelvie (New Estate, Enclosures, Teeth & Tongue) …  [taps into] the romance of power-pop without forgetting the snide edges.” http://messandnoise.com/articles/4621422
Cabin InnCabin Inn is the love child of Rossco Harvey (Through Lost Hope, May, bare bones, Axes for Exes & / \ ), a master in the art of reinvention. Conceived during a long North Melbourne winter, Cabin Inn expertly combines the best of confessional singer-songwriters (think Richard Buckner, Bill Callahan and Ben Gibbard), 60’s girl group doo-wop and lush post-punk. Lyrics, when delivered, are done in a deep and sometimes disturbing baritone, hitting you hard in the heart before soothing you, like the perfect coffee enjoyed inside, warm in pyjamas as an immense storm rolls across imagined hills outside your window. Never what you expect, the hazy heartbreak of Cabin Inn will keep you in a state of suspense while filling you with memories of times past and of hope for those yet to come.soundcloud.com/cabin-inn
Inevitable Orbit
Julian Williams' musical journey could be described as ‘out of the ordinary’. Coming from the experimental scene, even once part of ‘the world’s weirdest band’(Hi God People), Julian decided to do something different: start “a song band” or in other words, make structured pop songs ‘with an angular paradigm’. Together with friends Frances Plagne and Greg Allom they organically became Inevitable Orbit in 2005. Drawing on broad influences including Pere Ubu and Flying Nun, it’s not what you’d expect, and everything you’d want to hear. inevitableorbit.bandcamp.com/releases#zplays

Claire Birchall
Claire has been making beautiful, soulful music, writing songs and recording them since the mid-90’s. She took up guitar at 13, and began recording on 4-track cassette at 17, where she became a prolific songwriter and recorder. As well as continuing her work as a solo artist, she also plays in bands Paper Planes and The Happy Lonesome.clairebirchall.bandcamp.com/
Ada Hale is a local young’un who is no stranger to performance ... She has been in bands since primary school and is currently studying drama with the Melbourne Theatre Company. Come along and support this talented young lady!
