Free Beer Bottles

Untitled-2

hawkersbeer

So we had a pallet of 330ml amber bottles wrongly delivered. Now rather than dump them, we plan to put them out in the parking lot for home brewers to come and take as many as they like.

There are about 1,500.

Bottles go out Friday, just drive by and take as many as you like and help grow our beloved beverage.

Room for Rent

Hi - just putting the feelers out.

I have a spare room in a 5 bedroom house - room has BIR and is medium sized.  House is pretty original 1940s, wood heating only and original kitchen - so may not suit everyone...

House is 115 Fyffe Street Thornbury - close to creek and shops and trams etc.

Three of the rooms are occupied by my 10, 13 and 15 year old kids half the time.

I was thinking 150 pw?

Call Ash if interested 0435 370 350.

School Holiday Film Recommendation

Untitled-2

Hello All.

My 12 yr old son and I have enjoyed seeing the film The Hunt for the Wilderpeople.

Rated PG.

A New Zealand made film which is a bit larger than life without being too over the top.

Humorous with references for adults and kids to relate to. Full of unusual characters which are (largely) portrayed respectfully. Even has Hollywood car action at the end.

One distressing scene involving one of the dogs.

Main character is teenager Ricky. The bulk of the film is about the efforts of Ricky and his reluctant foster 'uncle' (played by Sam Neill) to avoid child protection, bounty hunters and the police.

Enjoy!

Lost Kitten

Untitled-2

Hi all!

Our kitten, Aswad, hasn't been seen for 24 hours which is very unusual (she's a total house cat).

She's black with an orange collar, though she might have unclipped it because she's cheeky like that.

If you see her around please give us a call on 0434 497 456. She's hopefully hanging around Hutchison place, as that's where we live.

Photos below!

Thanks so much,

Jess.

Food Forest

Untitled-2Winter Food Forest Fun in West Brunswick (Sun 26th)

Next Sunday 26th June from 11am-3pm down at the West Brunswick Community Garden & Food Forest we've got a bit of a thing going on and we'd love you to come along and get involved.

Everyone's welcome!

What's happening:

Learn about pruning (Karen Sutherland from Edible Eden Design will be helping us out!!), planting and composting.

Put your new (or rusty or refreshed) skills to use as we prune the trees in the food forest and plant out the area near our pistachio trees with lots of edibles.

By the time you leave you'll know something you didn't know before, be warmed up, know some great people see a big difference in the food forest and help make it ready for the coming Spring.

What to bring:

There will be tea/coffee and some tools but:
  • Bring something to share for lunch (we have fantastic shared lunches!)
  • If you're a pruner bring your secateurs
  • If you have some gloves bring them too
  • Obviously you live in Melbourne so you know what to wear

See you there.

If you have any enquiries, please get in touch

Friends of Edgar's Creek

Untitled-2

Hi FoEC'ers and friends,

We are planting this Sunday - this is the postponed planting that we didn't have last Sunday. I hope everyone got the message about the postponement from wither my email, our Facebook update or the website calendar. It is rare that we would alter our dates and hopefully we will not need to change the date of any other events any time soon.

This weekend we are up the top of the hill, up past the Conga foods site, up at the Sheoak woodlands area. Easiest access is wither crosing the creek at Livingstone Street and heading straight up the hill or if you are coming from Ronald St, cross the footbridge to the west side of the creek and head towards the Kodak bridge, go under the bridge and head up the hill. Take your time on the walk up as it is a fair hike to the top and stay on grass rather than dirt for better grip!

The planting details are as follows:

3. Plains Grassy Woodland Hilltop Area (Job No. 22)

Site Context
On top of an elevated hilltop with views across the Creek valley and the city of Melbourne to the south. This exposed site comprises heavy clay loams prone to drying out and cracking in hot weather. The site is also adjacent to the Moreland industrial area and a recapped municipal tip. As such, the integrity of the reserve would benefit from screening planting. An ephemeral waterhole is an interesting landscape feature of the site. The exposed location lends itself to Sheoak woodlands which would create a dramatic acoustic effect when the wind blows.

Habitat Objectives:
(a) EVC 55 Plains Grassy (She-oak) Woodland: An overstorey dominated by stands of Black Sheoak Allocasuarina littoralis, with scattered Grey Box Eucalyptus microcarpa. Generally shrubby in character, including Gold-dust Wattle Acacia acinacea,Golden Wattle Acacia pycnantha, Lightwood Acacia implexa, Sweet Bursaria Bursaria spinosa and Drooping CassiniaCassinia arcuata. The grassy understorey is dominated by Wallaby-grasses and Speargrasses such as Common Wallaby-grass Austrodanthonia caespitosa, Bristly Wallaby-grass Austrodanthonia setacea, Stiped Wallaby-grass Austrodanthonia racemosa and Kneed Spear-grass Austrostipa bigeniculata. Other common species include Windmill Grass Chloris truncata,Kidney-weed Dichondra repens, Blackanther Flax-lily Dianella revoluta and Small-leaved Clematis Clematis microphylla. The presence of chenopods such as Nodding Saltbush Einadia nutans and Ruby Saltbush Enchylaena tomentosa emphasise the dry nature of the community.

Coburg RSL Band Night

Untitled-2

Coburg RSL Band Night #23 … it's a Coburg Hootenanny!

Jaala+Gregor+Lowtide+Bobby Brave+Shrimpwitch
Saturday 2 July, 7pm, $10

On election day 2 July 2016 come and soak your woes at the Coburg RSL with an ecclectic round up of bands. Headlined by local legends Jaala and supports Gregor, Lowtide, Bobby Brave & Shrimpwitch. The Coburg RSL Band Night partners with the Hootenanny crew to bring you the first installment of a Coburg Hootenanny! Mc'd by the inimitable Mrs Barb Wire, who will commandeer the Spam Raffle and cause general havoc. Door fee tonight is $10, which includes free nibbles, cheap drinks, friendly people, accommodating spaces. Proudly queer and family friendly. Come along and celebrate the oddity which is the Coburg RSL Band Night!
JAALA (11pm)
Jaala is a four-piece Melbourne band led by the enigmatic vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Cosima (Manglewurzel). Their sound is affectionately referred to as shed, a cathartic blend of jangly indie-rock and proggy art-pop. Cosima’s song writing plunges into heavy depths of the heart, sharing both dreams, losses and personal chaos all delivered with the vulnerable honesty of her unique voice.
https://www.facebook.com/jaalaband/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLsQBDDOmtk
LOWTIDE (10pm)
Superficially, it would seem relatively easy to define Lowtide’s music. Their reverb drenched, richly layered and heavily textured sound brings to mind bands such as The Cure, Ride, My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive. Originally centered around the solo workings of Gabriel Lewis in 2008 the band's sound has evolved from a single ambient, soaring, textured guitar into the band's current, larger configuration framed by dual bassists/vocalists Lucy Buckeridge and Giles Simon and drummer Anton Jakovljevic.

GREGOR (8:30pm)
Melbourne fretwizard Gregor makes eccentric, inquisitive home recordings recalling Durutti Column, Arthur Russell or Talking Heads, then plays them live with a full band. https://www.facebook.com/gregorsings/https://chaptermusic.bandcamp.com/album/thoughts-faults
BOBBY BRAVE (7:45pm)
Duo Caitlin Perry and Bobby Bravington make swishy, swoony pop songs to enjoy!
https://www.facebook.com/bobbybravemusic/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptOirs_fwas
SHRIMPWITCH (7:00)
Shrimpwitch, the almighty duo of two very shrimpy witches with salty sexual magic who rule the ocean with their venereal garage rock. Members Kim Prawn & Georgi Goonsack defining the Shrimp-charged garage punk genre!

The sunny bedroom provides a wardrobe and is of comfortable size.

In return you have sole access to off street parking and a shed/garage for personal storage.

I am pet friendly and own a cat called Daisy but am unwilling to have another pet in the house.

Bond is $728 and the rent is 1 month in advance, $168 a week.

Please call me if you have any further queries, I will be of great assistance answering your questions. Please feel free to call me to organise a tour of the house.
