Petition

Untitled-2

There is presently a petition circulating, organised by the Pentridge Community Action Group, to try to stop the sale of D Division at Pentridge. D Division is the old women's gaol.
The original developer signed a Section 173 agreement with the state government or the Moreland Council that it would create a museum in 8 of the D Division cells. This has never been enforced.
Most sections of Pentridge have been totally demolished with remaining ones having the walls painted over in bright, colours, obliterating the social history that was encapsulated in the graffiti on the cell walls.
The petition calls on the state government to purchase the site and create the museum.
NCN members might wish to consider signing and circulating the petition.

Placards Needed

Untitled-2

I am wondering if anyone knows if any organisation is producing house placards in relation to the bi-election that say something about Adani and Labour's disappointing stance?

It looks like the Greens are just doing the standard ones with Alex Bhatal's face on it.

If anyone knows how to get such a placard, please post the info here.

Thanks, Antonia.

Babysitter

Untitled-2

My daughter is looking for babysitting work in the hood.

She is in Year 8, is responsible, diligent and fun to be around.

Kids seem to love her.

Call or text me on 0408 668 882.

(I will vet calls for creeps then put you directly on to her if you are genuine and not a creep).

International Women's Day

Untitled-2

International Women's Day event for Moreland City Council:

This year’s special event will be a celebration of IWD with a keynote speech from Santilla Chingaipe - journalist, documentary film-maker and writer, but it will also focus on community engagement and feedback on the key issues facing the community in reaching gender equality.

Roundtables will be facilitated by some amazing local community leaders including Alison Rowe - CEO of MEFL, Annette Sax - Managing Director of Yarn Strong Sista, Frances Tapueluelu - Artist, Councillor Natalie Abboud - Deputy Mayor of Moreland, Councillor Helen Davidson, former Mayor of Moreland and Russ Pirie - YGLAM Youth Theatre Director. The issues discussed will feed into Moreland Council’s review of the Statement of Commitment to Women: http://www.moreland.vic.gov.au/about-us/have-your-say/consultations/review-of-the-moreland-statement-of-commitment-to-women.

We will also be hosting further focus groups for the review over the next couple of months for the Statement of Commitment to Women, community members or groups can get in touch if they would be interested in hosting or taking part in one.

Thanks so much for your support- we would love to have as many voices on this important issues as possible!

Friends of the forest

Hello Good Newlands Folk,

With the spotlight on Batman for our by-election - it would be fabulous if Batman folk could host one of these signs in your home/workplace. (Or let other friends in Batman know and send on this notice).

With the Federal powers it is important our decision makers appreciate that our Victorian Forests are the most carbon dense in the world - up to  4X that of tropical rainforests and that we do care about our water, our climate our beautiful natural environment and our future....

Just txt or email your name and address and we will put it up for you or you can come and collect it if you prefer.

Wonderful wishes.

Julie and Cath.

Friends of Edgars Creek

Untitled-2

Hi FoEC'ers and Friends,

My latest effort ever with the calendar!

Three kids and all that life delivers is catching up with me; perhaps age too! I remember 'the good ol' days' when I had energy to burn, not to mention a full head of hair...

And a reminder as well - our AGM is on Sunday March 4th at noon and there is a Clean Up Australia Day event planned before this for those wanting to get down to some serious rubbish removal. If you want to nominate for our Committee or vote on the day you will need to be a formal FoEC member (see the website for details on signing up - no cost!)

Here's hoping we get some decent rain soon - it is dry, dry, dry out there.

See you on the creek soon!

Regards,
David.
