The not for profit venue Coburg RSL will celebrate its Band Night #8 on Saturday 6 December. We’re finishing off the year with a bang, some local and interstate talent will grace the stage. Bring the kids, bring your Nan … it’s ALL ages at the Coburg RSL. The Band Night series is kindly supported by the club in its efforts to survive without pokies revenue. The Coburg RSL values community connections and is keen to let everyone know that all are welcome through its doors. The focus of the Band Night series is on independent, young/new, &/or up and coming acts. We hope to welcome back the lovely Mrs Barb Wire (our fantastic MC) who has been on long service leave. Come and join the friendly staff/volunteers of the Coburg RSL wending us down a path full of happy surprises, not least of which is the 'Spam Raffle'. Check out this unique lineup of bands, not to be seen anywhere else … but Coburg!
HEART BEACH - AN OCEAN POP BAND THAT PLAYS EMOTIVE SKUZZ POP. They have five singles: Holiday / Weather (June 2013), House (August 2013), Record (October 2013) and Hours (December 2013). The band members are Jonathon McCarthy (guitar / vocals), Claire Jansen (bass / vocals) and Christopher Wessing (drums / guitar). Everett True (Collapse Board, Plan B) said this about them: “this music, this Heart Beach, is anything but difficult to get into: scintillating shimmering shivering girl-pop pop harmonies, slightly abrasive but only cos they refuse to add the fifth spoon, slightly sparse just so you can recall what a glorious moment in time that first Breeders album was, slightly sexy because all great music is slightly sexy. Claire Birchall & the Phantom Hitchhikers - Claire has been making beautiful, soulful music, writing songs and recording them since the mid-90’s. She took up guitar at 13, and began recording on 4-track cassette at 17, where she became a prolific songwriter and recrding artist. As well as continuing her solo work, she has played for many years in bands Paper Planes and The Happy Lonesome, and tonight fronts her newish ensemble The Phantom Hitchhikers.
