Hi, Local Friends and Art/Bird/Teatowel lovers, 

For a project in a Nature Based Leadership course I am doing, I have created an art piece capturing the incredible bird life in my local area and would like to print it on material as a decorative tea towel. 

I started watercolour painting in lockdown and have really enjoyed the ‘flow’ when I paint. It has also allowed me to feel more connected to my sit spot and nature in my local environment. Another surprising benefit has been the lovely comments I have received about how my artwork makes other people feel 🙏🏻

I am doing a small print run and wondered if anyone would like to purchase one. The design is below and will be printed on premium natural coloured cotton/ linen. The cost is $25.

Friends of Coburg Lake Planting

Hello, fellow carers and lovers of Merri Creek,

The planting season is now in full swing and we’d love you to join us!

Next Wednesday, 3^rd of August from 9.30 – 11.30 am, meet at the Rocky Outcrop at Coburg Lake (north side of lake between the toilets and the Flying Fox park) for some infill planting into this special site that we have been working on for now more than 5 years. A regular working bee happens at this site, 1^st Wednesday of every month and is led by Zoe, all are welcome to join and again bring your gloves, a shovel and old newspapers and cardboard if you have them.

See you there or on the creek!

When one window closes, another opens! Rachael is leaving NECCHi 💔  A message from Rachael:  Hello everyone, it's Rachael here! I wanted to let you all know that I’m moving from beloved Coburg and will be sadly leaving Necchi. As many of you know, one of my great loves is cooking and growing and I have been offered the opportunity to work with a small team running an orchard out on Dja Dja Country. It’s a dream job that I couldn’t say no too! I’ve had such a wonderful time at Necchi building a community of awesome people, creating programs, making passata, developing two huge lush community gardens, and most of all celebrating all things that are community and neighbourhood spaces. I feel like I’m leaving this place in such capable hands with the team here and you the community. One of the key pieces of work over the last 6 months has been developing our new Necchi Strategy from 2022-2025. I'm so pleased to announce this process is in its final stages and will soon be ready to share with you, so keep an eye on our socials and newsletters to find out more about the new Necchi vision. The next few years are looking so bright! We'll be advertising the new Manager role in the coming weeks via the Necchi board, but in the meantime I'm happy to chat through any questions you might have. Oh - and if you have someone in mind who could be perfect for the role, I'm more than happy to talk with them about the position. I'll be finishing up at the end of September, so still plenty of time to catch up and have a cuppa. We're also planning a little goodbye party at Brewlands once Oli is back, so keep an eye out for more details soon.  Thanks again for all of the wonderful memories and experiences, I will miss everyone but so looking forward to watching both houses grow and I'm so excited to see what Necchi does next.  x Rach Join Rose for some relaxed afternoon play & chats in our Newlands Lounge.  Wednesdays 2-3.30pm @ Newlands BOOK NOW Learn about the weeds of the merri so you can feel confident pulling them out! We also have a bunch of free RATs and N95 masks, so if you are in need feel free to drop by our offices (Tues-Fri, 10-4pm) to pick some up! Stay safe out there 💕  Managing Covid with such a small team (and Oli away!) has been very difficult! We are doing our best to keep both houses staffed, but we recommend keeping an eye on our socials for the most up-to-date information about the houses. All of our programs will be running as usual!  Merri Health: Living Well, Ageing Well Survey The Living Well, Ageing Well Team at Merri Health are asking community members aged 50-64 who live within northern metro Melbourne to complete this 10 minute survey, to help identify gaps and barriers to people getting the most out of their lives. To say thank you for being part of their survey, they're offering survey respondents 1 week free for one of the 4-6-week workshops held throughout the year! It has been so long between circle sessions and they are starting up again!.  

Mondays 7.30pm - 9pm

Payment is in a range that suits you $15-30.  If $15 is a struggle for you please let me know and if I have minimum numbers we can work something out.

Each session there will be:

A cup of tea and chat/check-in time

Group guidelines

Mindfulness and introduction to a theme for the evening

Facilitated discussion and sharing around the theme / intentional conversations

Closing mindfulness/meditation

This year I have decided to use a lovely new space at Newlands Neighbourhood House, there are chairs there but if you like and are comfortable on the floor you might like to bring your own cushion.

As long-term Newlanders, we will shortly be moving out of our place to allow for some work and  the creation of new space. Exciting! 

There’s two of us and we are after a two bedroom place,  preferably with a shed. Somewhere in the Newlands vicinity. So we can maintain our current connections. We anticipate being out of our place at least 18 months from September.

Let us know if you are looking to rent your place and would like to do so with locals. We’re responsible and considerate, so good tenants. We have a super well-behaved doggo who comes with her own neighbourhood references.
