Crowdsaucing - Tomato Bottling Day

Untitled-2

In partnership with CERES and the Newlands Community Centre we are having a tomato bottling day on Saturday April 30 from 10.00-3.00 @ The Newlands Senior Citizens Centre.

CERES have sourced local, organic tomatoes for $3.00 a kilo and we would like to gather an interested group of local people to organise and work together to preserve/bottle/sauce as many tomatoes as we can.

We need people to help organise (lots of things are already in place) and we also need people to come along and work with us.

If you would like to help organise or join in please let Mel know on melmate@hotmail.com and we'll go from there.

It is very likely we will put the call out for jars and bottles on the blog soon!!

If you would like to find out more about this event, check out

This event will take place alongside many more in Melbourne town.

Pick your own organic heirloom tomatoes is a new initiative from a young organic farmer in Keilor.

When tomatoes will be ready (likely soon after Xmas) you will be able to either get some direct by the box or go and pick some yourself. Bookings and pre-order will be via eventbrite.

You can get more info at https://www.facebook.com/pomodoropeople.

Tomatoes

Untitled-2
Hi all.
For those of you  interested in sauce/passata making - there  are some people selling boxes and boxes of sauce tomatoes (non- organic I suspect, but not sure) on the corner of Newlands Rd and Edwardes St in Reservoir. They have been there most days , tthe location is an ex service station.
Cheers.
