Magnet Studios

Untitled-2

Transformational Times!
Hi friends.

After seven years of running rehearsal studios we’re excited to announce we’ve decided to do something else.

To provide space for our transformation we won't be reopening the studio for rehearsals or spatial studio bookings.

We’re grateful to have met so many wonderful people along the way and look forwards to seeing you out there in the world!

Magnet Temporary Closure

Untitled-2

Transformations underfoot
Hey dear friends,

It’s a weird old time out there right now, a deep shift is underway. To be responsible for the health of our community, we’ve decided we are going to close up the Rehearsal, Recording and Spatial studios from this Friday 20 March.

We will re-emerge as a physical site for community to gather when the time is right, for the right now we are zooming along - creating a digital platform to share ideas and information.
Sign-up here to stay in touch

Radiate Fest

Radiate Festival will also be postponed in it's physical incarnation, as to gather would be irresponsible and run counter to our deep set value of inclusion and safety for all.

Now is more important than ever for people to be enabled to connect, learn new skills and ways of being in the world, and managing our collective resources.

We are hoping to use this opportunity to fulcrum deeper learning and engagement with the topics we were/are excited to share with you.

Once again, please sign up to our new mailing list to stay a part of this journey.

We'll be back in touch with Studio news when the world is a different place. Till then: stay safe and look after each other

An Invitation to Radiate Festival

A Festival of Guided Conversation - Skill Sharing -  Collaborations - Food - Music & Resilience

Join us at Magnet on March 28 from 1-11pm for a day of intergenerational knowledge sharing and community building. 2020 has brought us bushfires and murmuring of pandemics; our response is to gather and connect through music, food, and shared exploration of what a resilient, connected community might look like. We invite you to imagine what we can collectively grow into, and bring yourself, your knowledge and your energy to those possibilities.

Please join us for:
  • Facilitated Conversations centered around: Empowering Communities beyond Capitalism, Active Hope and more!
  • Gardening workshop: start building a community garden at Magnet
  • Digital security: be more aware, secure and deliberately connected in cyberspace
  • All genders clothing swap: bring clothes you’re ready to farewell and swap
  • Make-up/Disrupt: make up to disrupt facial recognition software
  • Hyper-local Mutual Aid: build connection in your neighborhood.
  • Van life: how-to-do and not to do

Everyone has something to teach and learn-- sign-up on the day to run a skill sharing workshop.

Much more to be announced as it unfolds.

    Exhibition Opening:
    Sorcha Wilcox
Quantum Art Space: Event Potential in Practice
You're invited to the opening of Sorcha's final exhibition for her PhD investigation, Quantum Art Space: Event Potential in Practice, this Friday 18th October from 6-8pm in our Spatial Studio.

"to understand the project one needs to get into it, and cast their own shadow upon it, and this exhibition provides you with the opportunity to do just that."

The practice-led investigation finds the potential of visual material and attempts to re-consider the experience of making through the reflective (creative practice and speculative process) quantum theory. For example, the key quantum concepts, such as the frames of entanglement and formlessness, underpin this practice-led research and press us to think systematically. This has become paramount within the practice-led component of this PhD Project. The project uses quantum as an active participant that provides triggers to prompt ideas within the exchange between an art-work and the viewer and not as a fixed quantifiable moment.

This research examines where and how the fields of quantum, philosophy of event and visual arts, intersect and work together, offering a new quantum focus throughout the creative process by directly addressing and deploying the actualities of interactions between processes and events for creative ends.

There's no denying climate change, and we all have an immense responsibility to act now. Feeling guilty, anxious, powerless? So are we. But remember, no action is too little. We've decided to do our bit by providing the option to pay for the the planting of a tree via our website.

Keep an eye out for the option when you are next booking online, or Plant a Tree here
The next day of planting natives is scheduled December 2019, location TBC.
