Climate Change Board Game

Dear, Community, 

We’re thrilled to announce The Adaptation Game Merri-Bek board game (TAG) is now playing around our community. We're inviting you, and want to ask if you would help us spread the word.

TAG Merri-bek is a playful workshop for local residents to connect and become more resilient to climate change. It's based on real science about how climate change will affect Merri-Bek. You get to play out real-world ways to prepare your home, family, community, and environment.  No act is too small, no idea is too big. TAG is a cooperative game, all the players work together, so you don’t have to be “good at games”.

We are starting at Sussex Neighbourhood House in March, April & May, and want to ask if you could tell your community if they want to come. The next place will be at Merri Food Hub in Fawkner in April, May & June, and we will update as news comes.

Degrowth

Degrowth Network Australia (https://degrowth.info/en/degrowth) are having a big workshop, a degrowth degustation called “Slow down, Degrow” on 10 February at Trades Hall, also as part of the National Sustainability Festival.

It's perfect for people new to Degrowth, explaining the “why” and “what”, and also for those who really want to get into how we degrow in areas from work to transport, food, and more. 

People interested and familiar with degrowth are encouraged to come, however, we would especially like to invite people with no previous background in degrowth. So why not invite someone who you you've been looking to start a degrowth conversation with, and who you'd wish would come along!

The Adaptation Game

TAG (The Adaptation Game) is a playful workshop for Merri-bek residents to connect & help prepare our community to be more resilient to climate change.

The makers of TAG are having a short (15min) film screening followed by a NUCA (Neighbours United For Climate Action) presentation on how to get involved locally in climate action, on Tuesday 30th May at the Brunswick Town Hall 6 - 7.30pm (with catering!).

The film night is a chance to get an understanding of the game and what it hopes to achieve. 

The next session for actually playing TAG is Sunday 18th June at CERES (at 10am). 

These events are free and sponsored by Merri-bek Council.

Big enough to finally wake up the Government to act on legalising reduction in fossil fuel emissions.

Climate Strike

Kinder kids (& parents) contingent at the SEPT 20 CLIMATE STRIKE!

The next climate strike is not just for high school students - everyone is joining in to call for action on climate change. If you have kinder or pre-school kids, come along and join in a safe and family friendly contingent of small kids and parents. We will walk (slowly!!) with a banner and have some small placards for small hands. Older kids welcome too.

Friday 20 Sept, 2pm at the Treasury Gardens, at the Robert Burns statue, opposite the Spring/Flinders Lane corner.

Climate for Change

Climate for Change Crowdfunder cups

I have recently become involved in a local not-for-profit called Climate for Change. They are running their biggest ever crowdfund to expand interstate so I hsve decided to sell 30 of my handmade cups and donate the revenue. The Crowdfunder

Climate for Change is currently running their biggest ever crowdfund in order to raise $125, 000 by the start of June.

Their flagship program, Conversations for Change, has done groundbreaking work helping people talk about climate change in Melbourne. Now it's time to take their work interstate where it can make the biggest difference.

This crowdfund will go a long way in supporting Climate for Change expanding to two more states.

Community Climate Action Forum

Our governments have failed to act on climate change – indeed some are now winding back climate policies.

The good thing is we don't have to wait for governments to do something. The fight for a safe climate is being fought on other fronts and real progress is being made. Ordinary people everywhere are taking action on climate in places that often aren't in the news - the council chambers, churches, bank branches and school halls we pass every day.

Around Australia and the world people are getting involved in actions to change our institutions to drive the change we need to see in our economies, our societies and our politics.

Moreland is host to a range of activities where people are working together to put action on climate change back on the agenda. Some examples are: Fossil fuel divestment campaigns, local climate education events, pressuring political candidates, increasing the climate resilience of our community, developing community renewable energy facilities, and organising local food production. 

By working together we can turn the tide. In fact, that tide is already rising (just as the science predicted!) and it will flow through our community and uplift us as we do what needs to be done.

Together, our voices and our actions can make a difference

If a safe climate is important to you, there isn’t any choice in this – action is mandatory. Join us now in grassroots community climate action!
