Tibetan Dancing
Dear
Newlands
community,
Two visiting international Tibetan dance teachers will be
in Melbourne
next Sunday presenting contemporary Tibetan song and dance (called Khaita) in a free demonstration at Victoria Market.
In early December they will be leading fun, beginners workshops at Fleming Park Hall in Victoria St, East Brunswick. These are by donation so as to make them financially accessible to as many people as possible. It's a great way to support and join in the preservation of Tibetan culture in contemporary times.
Please
help spread the word to
anyone
who you
think
might
be
curious or
interested as the events are open to all. The
participatory
workshops are ideal for a
dults and children
over 12 years of age and are fun and energetic.
T
he
Victoria
Market demonstration will appeal to all ages
and is more about watching and enjoying rather than direct participation.
For more info contact Sean Read (m: 0414 610 243 or melbourne@dzogchen.org.au)

“U can dance if u want to” was conceived by two Melbourne musicians and DJs, who also happen to work in the disability sector. The project was created due to the lack of a regular Melbourne wide dance party where participants can expand their social networks beyond their current social groups. Our vision is to provide a monthly all ages dance party, primarily for people with disabilities, but of course, inclusive to anyone who wants to have a great night out.

Dances of the Mediterraneo, girls workshop
Hello everybody!
I am running a 2 days dance workshop for girls 8 to 12 years old on the 23rd and 24th if January, at the Coburg Baptist church hall, 297 Sydney rd, from 10am to 12pm each day. The workshop will explore traditional dances of the Mediterranean area that focus on feminine issues and celebrate the passage from childhood into womanhood. From the fluid and relaxing moves of Egyptian baladi (commonly considered a form of bellydance), to the sacred circle dances of Greek and South of Italy, and the trance ritualistic dances of Morocco and Algeria.
This will be a fun, natural and safe way for young girls to connect with their changing bodies, and to build awareness and acceptance of it through movement, rhythm and the discovery ancient rituals and beliefs. I have worked within this field for the last 3 years with regular residencies in a number of girls secondary colleges in Melbourne, it is a very exciting and inspirational journey for every young woman!
The cost for both days is $50 per girl, $85 for siblings.
RSVP essential, very limited places left, I'll keep the class quite small and intimate.
Call or email me for more info or to book in!!
Feel free to pass it on to any young woman you think might be interested!
Happy new year,
Rosa Voto
