Bulk Buying

Hi folks, it’s toilet paper time again... and I’ve got some exciting news.

I’m having a crack at expanding what we buy together.

Our bulk-buy TP community has grown to over 140 households, with around 50 ordering each cycle (4 times a year). I don’t know about you, but I find that pretty inspirational!

Over the next few months, I’ll be testing a shorter 4–6 week cycle with a small range of essential items (things like oats, olive oil, laundry detergent and tissues) alongside the usual Yarn'n toilet paper.

The aim is to make it easy to stock up on the basics in a way that’s affordable, lower-waste, and a bit more community-minded than a supermarket.

Each item has a minimum order target. If we hit it, we unlock the bulk pricing. If not, the order doesn’t go ahead.

Most households spend $100-$150 p/month on these kinds of essentials, often without thinking about it. This is a way to organise our spending more intentionally, using our combined buying power.

To keep things running sustainably, there’s a small $5 order fee, and prices are set close to wholesale.

I'd love you to show your support for this experiment by placing an order. And if you know 2 or 3 people who’d find this useful, please spread the word. It genuinely helps make the orders go ahead.

Bulk Buy Group

Are you interested in joining our informal bulk buy of organic dry food?

Our group arranges a quarterly order, mainly large bags of oats, rice, flour, sugar, cocoa, sultanas, milk and other items as per demand. We then split it ourselves into our own containers according to our needs.

The benefits are high quality organic products at wholesale price, less packaging, fewer supermarket trips and carting, less transport overall…  and of course a local network of co-op members.
