Early Childhood Music

Untitled-2

MINPAA is happy to announce the opening of their brand new early childhood class just for 3-year-olds every Friday 9.30-10.15.

Our classes are multi-instrumental and provide the children with the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of music while actively enjoying and exploring piano/keyboard, guitar/ukulele, drum kit/percussion, creative movement.

Our classes follow a ten-week curriculum plan that incorporates musical styles and cultures from around the world.

Each lesson is also focused on a particular music element which is then transferred to the different forms of musical expression including voice, creative movement, and instrumentation.

We follow a range of methodologies including Kodaly and Orff and the children have great joy in learning and responding to simple notation which forms the beginning of musical literacy.

Music Classes

Untitled-2
Dear Newlands residents.

We are happy to announce our brand new Baby & Toddler Musical Sensory Classes.

Here is a bit about our program:

Why is Baby Sensory Musical Exploration so beneficial for you and your little ones?

Our Baby Sensory Musical Exploration Classes form the foundation for a life-long love for music by developing a child's inquisitive mind through exploration, auditory and delightfully musical and sensory experiences.

We provide each child with a musical sensory treasure box where inside they will discover a wonderful musical adventure!

We also combine a wonderful journey of musical instruments which begin their journey for future specialisation on a particular instrument. We provide the infants with an introduction to simple music theory including: piano/keyboard, drum/percussion, string instruments including guitar, ukulele and violin and most of all the power of singing

Your little ones will love listening, singing and playing along, participating in tummy time activities, movement, and creative expression while all the while developing their linguistic and fine as well as gross motor skills.

When are the classes?

Classes will be held on:

Mondays 0-1 years 10.00-10-30

Mondays 1-2 years 10.45-11.15

Tuesdays 0-1 years 10.45-11.15

Tuesdays 1-2 years 11.15-11.45

Wednesday 10.30-11 0-1 years

Wednesday 11-11.30 1-2 years

11.30-12 2-3 years

How do parents caregivers benefit participate?

Parents and Caregivers build their relationship with their baby through the wonderful sensory musical experiences we offer. You will engage with your child and share your experiences with others in a nurturing and child-centered environment, enjoy a nice morning tea and watch your child develop and delight in their joy and be proud to be sharing this experience with your little ones.

See you at our rehearsal launch, Sunday 3 September!
We'll be launching our rehearsals for Serenading Adela at 3pm on Sunday 3 September. All potential choir, band and Unruly Mob members welcome!

Please come along on 3 September to hear a little about the history, to talk about the project, meet people, and see how you would like to fit in (see options below). We'll have our draft rehearsal schedule there.

DATE AND TIME: 3pm to 6pm (with a tea break), Sunday 3 September
VENUE:  Scout Hall, 213A Weston Street, Brunswick East
BOOKINGS: If you are on this e-list, but have not yet confirmed you're coming, please email us at serenadingadela@gmail.com to streamline registrations on the day.

GHOSTS DON'T LIE: If you have learned this song before, please bring your music, and we'll sing a bit for the others.
COST: Attendance is FREE, thanks to our donors!
EXPERIENCE? Not needed, for the choir – all welcome!
CANT COME ON SUNDAY BUT STILL WANT TO JOIN? Just email us to let us know.
Your options
There are four main options for participating:
1. The big choir – rehearsing most but not all Sunday afternoons.
2. The small choir – some extra music to learn and sing, telling Adela's story; and extra rehearsals. All welcome.
3. The street band – rehearsals still being organised, probably from October. If you only  need your hands to play (not your mouth), you might like to also learn the main choir songs.
4. The Unruly Mob – will join the march to Pentridge, play the mob, and sing a couple of the easier songs. Rehearsing in December.
"And dare we talk of peace when wars are raging?"
Artistic Director and composer Jeannie Marsh is drawing on writings, poetry and music from World War 1 for our Street Opera. These include a short poem by local resident and activist Doris Blackburn, published 100 years ago in The Woman Voter, set to music as a magnificent finale:

"Dare we talk peace?
Yes! Talk and sing and shout it".

We'll try out one or two of our new songs on Sunday.
Where and when?
  • If you are new to Serenading Adela, you can read more on our Wordpress blog.
Choir rehearsals will be at 3pm on Sunday afternoons, from September to December. Except the Cup weekend, when our hall is not available Sunday so we are looking at a 4-hour rehearsal on Cup Day (we will check feasibility of this with you when we meet on 3 September).

Full details of our rehearsal schedule will be provided on 3 September, but please note that we will definitely be rehearsing after a Christmas break, from Tuesday 2 January for our major 7 January performance. Please plan to be in town then!

Rehearsals will be held at the 5th City of Brunswick Scout Hall, 213A Weston Street, Brunswick East – a beautiful former church.  Closest tram is Nicholson St, route 96 to Miller Street (stop 23) or Lygon Street routes 1 or 6 to Weston Street (stop 121). Bike via the East Brunswick Shimmy (John Street, links through to Canning Street).

The hall is wheel-chair accessible.

Rehearsals will be led by our Artistic Director Jeannie Marsh, and Brunswick Rogues choir leader Emily Hayes. They will be fun, friendly, and fabulous!

Choir songs will include the beautiful 'Ghosts Don't Lie', written last year by Stephen Taberner. The music's on our Wordpress blog . You can watch us perform it online with soloist Lisa-Maree Parker, who will join us to play Adela.

The evening of Sunday 7 January 2018 will be the centenary performance, exactly 100 years after three or four hundred people gathered outside Pentridge to serenade Adela Pankhurst.

We will also perform outside Brunswick Town Hall – early evening of Wednesday 20 December – and (TBC) on 11 December at Trades Hall.
