Not One Less

Untitled-2

Thursday was International Day of Elimination of Violence against Women.
According to the latest estimates, nearly 1 in 3 women aged 15 years and older, around the world have been subjected to physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner, non-partner or both, at least once in their lifetime, indicating that levels of VAWG have remained largely unchanged over the last decade.  These numbers do not reflect the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Last weekend a small group of women of various ages, diverse backgrounds, and walks of life, came together to express through physical presence and shared repetitive movements, their hopes for things to change.
Violence against women is a cultural matter. We need to change the culture that accepts, excuses and tolerates gender-based violence.

Women's rights are everybody's responsibility. To fight against any form of violence towards women is now our duty.
The world remains unprepared to respond to the rapid escalation of all forms of VAW. If we want to ensure that no woman or girl is left behind, we need comprehensive and inclusive approaches that can be adapted to rapidly changing contexts, preventing and responding to all forms of VAW.
We demand this to start now.

Not one less woman, not one more death.

Wilderdance

Untitled-2

Live local?  Got feelings?  Ever thought of doing something for yourself?    YOU  NEED  TO  WILDERDANCE.

WHAT IS WILDERDANCE?

Wilderdance is a dance remedy. Wilderdance inspires growth and healing. It helps you to acknowledge your emotions and express them through movement. It uses music and dance to tap into your emotions. It uses slow and deliberate moves to bring awareness to yourself and your environment, and it uses free movement to help forge a strong and steady path to your mountain. Your mountain lies deep within you and it can be difficult to navigate the urban wilderness that is life, to find it. Wilderdance will give you all the tools you need to navigate that wilderness.

So often in life we are moving our bodies and minds to the beat of someone else's drum. Wilderdance teaches you to allow the music to guide your movement and your mind with the purpose of telling YOUR story. It allows you to move to the beat of your own drum.

The dance and creative process is for EVERYBODY. The Adventurous. The Anxious. The Shy. The Curious. And although loosely guided, your Wilderdance is very much YOUR experience.  Mountain is sought, not taught.

No fancy dance skills required,  just bring the feels and the desire.

Each class will fuse together element of folk dance, contemporary dance,
dance and movement therapy and dance theatre. There will be no right or
wrong, each child will be encourage to meet his/her own inner dancer/mover
and bring it out!!

I have been teaching dance in schools for the past 4 years and have learned
a lot by observing children's response to the different teaching approaches.

I am looking forward to seeing your children there!!

School of Tarantella

Untitled-2
It is with great pleasure and excitement to inform you that I am just about to embark on a new very exciting project funded by Moreland  City council called Terra Mare. The project wants to get together people with a history or a connection to migration to share their stories and memories and put them together in a final performance based on dance/movement and music.

At the moment we are on the hunt for possible participants. We just need people that are willing to commit to 6 weekly meetings in which we will put together the performance and also musicians of any kind.

I wonder if you could pass this on to those you think may be interested, also here is the link to our Facebook page:

I will be holding an information night to find out more on the project on Wednesday the 21st of may at 7:30 at the Coburg Uniting church hall, where I do classes.

Ciao,

Rosa.

Capoeira in Newlands? You Decide

Untitled-2

The kids instructor will do classes for us in Newlands if we have 8 kids to attend. I really like this school. It is not the closest but I like the Vibe of the club and instructors.
Here are two videos on the school website. Second video is the one with kids

This is a wonderful way to engage children in learning music and being active in their bodies while learning respect for others.

Music, rhythm, strength, Ethics and Playfulness. Great combination, worth checking out. The Kids instructor is great and brings out their best.

Give me a call or text if your interested.

In the meantime come and watch a class at :- 301 high St, Prahran.
If you want, your welcome to come with me (and my son who is 5) to a class. I am happy to offer the lift. It is a small car so numbers are limited. J  0438014803

Saturday 11am till 11:45 for 4-8year olds.

The classes are in the Hall under the Prahran RSL on High St.

This would be great in Newlands

Dances of the Mediterraneo, girls workshop

Hello everybody!

I am running a 2 days dance workshop for girls 8 to 12 years old on the 23rd and 24th if January, at the Coburg Baptist church hall, 297 Sydney rd, from 10am to 12pm each day. The workshop will explore traditional dances of the Mediterranean area that focus on feminine issues and celebrate the passage from  childhood into womanhood. From the fluid and relaxing moves of Egyptian baladi (commonly considered a form of bellydance), to the sacred circle dances of Greek and South of Italy, and the trance ritualistic dances of Morocco and Algeria.

This will be a fun, natural and safe way for young girls to connect with their changing bodies, and to build awareness and acceptance of it through movement, rhythm and the discovery ancient rituals and beliefs. I have worked within this field for the last 3 years with regular residencies in a number of girls secondary colleges in Melbourne, it is a very exciting and inspirational journey for every young woman!

The cost for both days is $50 per girl, $85 for siblings.

RSVP essential, very limited places left, I'll keep the class quite small and intimate.

Call or email me for more info or to book in!!

Feel free to pass it on to any young woman you think might be interested!

Happy new year,
