Edgars Creek water monitoring Sunday 1st July 10 am!

Hello all,

It’s the start of the months again!

Edgar's creek water testing will be this Sunday 1st July.

Near the old Ronald street footbridge.

Please note - we are gonna try the new start time of 10 am (not so cold!).

Waterwatch

Hello all,

It’s the start of the months again! (and Easter Sunday and April Fool’s day!).

But this is not an April Fool - our Edgar’s Creek water testing will be this Sunday 1st April.

Come along and help monitor the water quality. 

Near where the old footbridge was 9:00 to ~ 10:30 am.

Waterwatch has some free upcoming events perfect for families. 

Sunday 8 April                       
Wetland to wetland Bike ride         

10am -1pm

Beginning at the Merri Creek next to CERES. Come join MCMC for an easy bike ride along the Merri Creek, stopping at some beautiful wetlands along the way.  Learn more about the ecological health of the Merri Creek when we stop to test the creek’s health, look for frogs, water bugs and other critters that live in the Magnificent Merri. Snacks will be included. Families welcome.

Saturday 28 April      
Discovering the Frogs of Westbreen Creek.               

5.00-6:30pm 

Meeting at KW Joyce Reserve, off Northumberland Avenue, Pascoe Vale. Come celebrate World Save the Frogs Day by learning more about Westbreen Creek’s local frogs and helping us collect important citizen science data on our frog populations. This event is suitable for all ages. There will be frog activities and a walk and talk of the Westbreen Creek.T

Hello all,

Our Edgars Creek water testing will be this Sunday 4th March.

Near where the old footbridge was @ 9am.

We won’t be testing a bug sample from the Edgars Creek this month, but we will be taking a sample from the Wetlands as part of the Waterbug census.

Waterwatch have some exciting free events coming up this Spring. All events are free, bookings essential.

Epping North Frog Census, 12 October 2017 7:30-8:30pm

Meet at Edgars Creek, LehmaGrowling Grass Frog metamorph by G Heardnn’s Farm Park, cnr Broadleaf Drive and Zinnober Lane, Epping. Melway reference: 181 F5. Join Waterwatch and the Friends of Growlers Grasslands for a night of frog discovery. Learn to recognise different frog calls and help collect important data for the frog census including using the exciting new Melbourne Frog Census app. There will be a presentation and a walk around the wetland. Families are most welcome. The event involves walking, at times in the rain, so please bring weather appropriate clothing for the event. (Frogs love rain so don’t be put off by a rainy evening, this event will still go ahead.) Bookings essential here

Waterbug (ALT Method) Census Community Waterbug sessions on the Merri Creek – Spring 2017*

Macroinvertebrates (or water bugs) are very important for the health of the waterway as they are a key part of the food chain and can tell us about the health of the ecosystem.
Join Merri Creek Management Committee for one (or both!) of these Waterbug sampling sessions as we collect data on waterbug diversity for Melbourne Water project priorities. The sessions will cover:
• sampling and collecting of macroinvertebrates
Damselfly, website
• identifying live macroinvertebrates (using
• the Agreed Level Taxonomy System)
• increasing your ALT accreditation
Lunch is provided.
*please note: these sessions are only for participants that have    completed     Waterbug Census advanced training session.

1. Merri Creek, end of Lorne Street Fawkner (park on Lorne Street and walk approx. 200 downstream)

Saturday 21 October Wetland Walk and Talk in Darebin. 

10:30am-12:30pm Meet at Pavilion next to children’s Playground, Edwards Lake Park, Griffiths Street, Reservoir. Saturday 21 October, 10:30-12:30pm. Celebrate National Water Week by joining City of Darebin and Waterwatch environment staff on an easy walk and talk of the history, environmental benefits and the wonders of wetlands at Edwardes Lake Park in Reservoir. The City of Darebin are launching their new interactive water map and invite you to explore how Water Sensitive Urban Design in Darebin is helping to reduce pollution in our local waterways. Come learn more and get your hands wet testing the water quality and catching local waterbugs at the wetland walk and talk. Light refreshments provided. Families are welcome. This is a free event.
