Hi everyone,

I'm a Newlands resident and just letting my neighbours and friends in the hood know about an upcoming event that I'm very proud to be presenting:

This is the first time that the beautifully restored print of this iconic movie is being screened in Australia, and the only screening in Melbourne. If you're a film buff or lover of string quartet music, don't miss it!

James Taylor caught the mood of the world in songs which blended late 60’s folk into the new rock, however his fragile health and addictive nature almost ended his career and his life. In the mid 70’s he was faced with a choice that would change everything. A compelling story told through the songs that defined a generation.

In this brand new show John Fleming (Scared Weird Little Guys) displays the crystal voice, exceptional musicianship and clear storytelling that make this a performance not to be missed. “Carolina in my mind”, “Sweet baby James”, Shower the people”, “Fire and Rain” and lots more plus the music of Carole King, Joni Mitchell and Carly Simon.

After sold out shows in the La Mama Explorations 2014 season, performance troupe The Stain present a slightly stranger, slightly more outrageous and courageous remount of their two new shows. A Piece for an Odd Place is a short, dark and provocative work exploring consciousness and memory in the face of life and death. The Want is a raucous homage to the feminist punk-rock movement of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s led by women who were punk by mindset and attitude, not necessarily by genre. Each story majestically told through puppetry, performance, dance, art, live music, strip and song.

Too young or straight to know about Cougar Vox? The punk muse and legend has recently resurfaced and reformed her band Grr!!
Have a look at her history here: http://cougarvox.blogspot.com.au

With family connections from Frida Kahlo, Neal Cassady, Andy Warhol and others, Cougar Vox did not have a conventional upbringing. Instructed in the tuba by Francis Ford Coppola at age 11, at 12 a house guest of family friend Warhol the week he was shot and recipient of Brian Eno's first ambient musical scores while she recovered from being hit by a semi. Emancipated from her mother at the age of 15, she was staking her claim on punk soil in scenes across the USA and the UK by the time she was 16 and has been battling her demons ever since. She is apparently an inspiration to dozens of musicians who cite her as an influence, though she has had no commercial success to back it up. Cougar is a vial of angst. Unstable and ready to blow. She tried to put it all behind her with a quiet life in the leafy northern suburbs of Melbourne, but now she's back with a few words for those who've tried to do her wrong.
