Can we save our great forests and the incredible beauty, wonder and biodiversity that makes up their precious ecosystems? On the eve of Threatened Species Day the ACF is holding an event you cannot afford to miss. Professor David Lindenmayer AO is based at the Fenner School of Environment and Society at ANU. He is also the world’s leading expert in natural resource management, conservation, science and biodiversity conservation and foremost expert on Australia’s native forests. He is also a multi-award winning researcher and author on biodiversity and conservation and a member of the Australian Academy of Science and a Fellow of the Ecological Society of America. Prof Lindenmayer will outline the state of our native forests and explain the drivers of forest and species loss and the increase in fire threat. This discussion will raise issues of the role of government and VicForests in the ever increasing threat to our iconic native flora and fauna and most important ecosystems. Don't miss this rare opportunity to hear Australia’s leading expert in forest conservation.     Come along on a Terrific Toolangi day walk hosted by the Victorian Mountain Tramping Club. Sunday 11 Sept - it will be about a 17km on the Tanglefoot Track - seeing magnificent mountain ash & areas planned to be logged by Vic Forest. Toolangi Forest

Invitation to join us for a Toolangi forest visit next Saturday 23 April

• Join us & fabulous Hayley Foster, President of the amazing Wildlife of the Central Highlands - WOTCH on Saturday April 23rd for a day trip to the forest

2.   Cooper Climate Election Forum  

Show the candidates that Cooper voters want emergency climate action in this term of government - and that we value and demand native forest protection

The Darebin Climate Alliance is holding a Cooper Climate Election Forum. The forum is a chance to put questions directly to the candidates. Sitting member, Ged Kearney from the Labor Party, Celeste Liddle from The Greens, Adrian Whitehead, from the newly formed Fusion party, and Kath Larkin from the Victorian Socialists will be attending. Other candidates will be invited as they become known. The forum will be moderated by Emeritus Professor Judy Brett, resident of the Cooper electorate, political historian and author of From Secret Ballot to Democracy Sausage.

Wow, it is all happening!

This weekend as part of the Sustainable Living Festival we are launching the Victorian Forest Alliance in Northcote. Community groups from across the state including Newlands Friends of the Forest have come together to form the Victorian Forest Alliance and we are very excited about the launch this weekend. Everyone is invited! 

The Victorian Forest Alliance Art Auction, raising funds to protect gorgeous greater gliders through court cases - is an online Auction with fabulous works! It has been ages since we reached out to NCN. Throughout this time Newlands Friends of the Forest kept up our work  behind the scenes.  Now is an extraordinary time for forest protection across Vic with communities reaching out in so many ways to stop the State Government from logging one of our great assets. We would like to share with you a little of what is happening. Let us know if you would like to help out. 

There are now  

• Two blockades in beautiful forest which would welcome you (Snobbs Creek - just over an our away and Errinundara in East Gippsland) 
• Six court cases against VicForests (most of which could do with some extra funds) 
• Currently the Vic Government is hearing the Inquiry into Ecosystem Decline in Victoria is being heard and you can watch on line @ https://www.parliament.vic.gov.au/epc-lc/article/4454  (Do watch David Lyndenmayer 1.45pm and Friends of Leadbeaters possum 2.30 pm speak if you have a chance)
