Film Fundraiser

Untitled-2

We are a group of local volunteers helping a refugee family (single mum and 3 kids) to settle in Australia as part of the CRISP program (Community Refugee Integration Settlement Pilot).

We identified with the family that learning to swim would be a good goal for the kids but the family budget is not able to cover this.

We are doing a film fundraiser to cover the year's worth of swimming lessons it usually takes to become proficient.

Sunday 14/6 - 3 to 5 pm - Merlynston Hall

Either use the QR code on poster or https://shoutforgood.com/event-ticketings/refugee-movie-fundraiser to buy tickets or tax deductible donations.

All  tickets include a raffle ticket and light refreshments.

There will also be a Q&A with some of the refugee actors and the film director about their  experience of settling in Australia.

Feel free to pass on to your networks.

Possible Fundraiser

Untitled-2

Hi, Community.

During a recent trip to Timor Leste I met a lovely family that had a 17 year old daughter that has been offered a 75% scholarship in international law at an excellent university in Indonesia. The shortfall (25%) is around $10,000 a year for 3 years. The family have exhausted all avenues and can't afford this much money, they are close to saying no to the opportunity.

A few of us (local folks) are thinking of starting a fundraiser but first wanted to gauge the interest in the community.

If you think this is something that you would choose to contribute to, please send me an email on melmate@hotmail.com

Thanks so much!

Helen's Hope

Untitled-2

Mission: To raise awareness about ovarian cancer.

Helen Hatzis (1965-2016) died two years ago after an eight year battle with ovarian cancer. In that eight year period, Helen became an ambassador for the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF). She hosted and spoke at functions raising awareness about this insidious disease and the need for an early detection test. In Australia, a woman dies every 10 hours from ovarian cancer.

With Helen’s passing, a few of her closest friends and family formed the Helen’s Hope Foundation in order to honor her legacy and raise funds for worthwhile causes. Helen was more than a cancer sufferer. She was a wife, mother, sister, daughter, aunt and friend. Helen was a dedicated speech pathologist, teacher, mentor and philanthropist. In the time since Helen lost her battle with cancer the Foundation has raised over $35,000 which has been donated to the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF).

You may want to make a small contribution by purchasing a Helen’s Hope tote bag.

Each bag costs $20 including free home delivery. If you wish to make a purchase you can contact Irene at 0405 386 747. All proceeds go to the OCRF.

With the community behind us we will reopen Peppertree

Thanks for your support so far in saving Peppertree Place.  We are set to reopen to doors to the public again soon.  But for now we are calling on our community to help us one more time.  We want to raise some funds to kick start us on this journey.  The money we raise will go towards paying the rent, buying materials and paying utility bills until our social enterprises are up and running again.

As you will know friends of Peppertree through a great community campaign was able to get an eleventh hour win to save Peppertree Place.  Since September we have been working with Coburg Uniting Church to take over the lease of the site from Uniting (formally Kildonan Uniting Care). This will mean Peppertree place will be managed by a community not-for-profit, Friends of Peppertree Place under the umbrella of Moreland Community Gardening Inc.

We have been ironing out the last details with the Coburg Uniting Church and progressing well. All going well we will be able to reopen to the community in December or early 2019.  Which is great news!

But and there is a big BUT! We are starting from scratch, so we are asking the community to rally around once again to get us started.  You may recall we talked about launching a crowd funder to raise the much needed funds  well this is it.  So because you were part of saving Peppertree we thought you would love to be part of getting it growing again.

So I am excited to say we now have everything in place and if you click on this link you will be able to head on over and make your donation.   No matter how big or small every dollar we get from our amazing supporters will help us to build up Peppertree's programs once again and continue this lovely community space for our community.

Make sure you do this today as this will help us build the momentum of our crowd funder quickly and reach our target of $15,000.

There are loads more details on the crowd funder site if you want to know more. But having this money behind us will give us a great base to build up some new community projects and help to us get Peppertree back on her feet.

So head on over and make a contribution no matter how big or small as every $1 we make will make big difference to what we can do when we reopen very soon.

Thanks again for supporting Peppertree, it has been amazing to see the love and determination there is for Peppertree in our community and to have this opportunity to keep this little oasis for our community is very exciting.

If you have other friends who you know love Peppertree like you do please share the link with them and encourage them to donate as well.
