Chickens for Adoption

We have to go away for three months and unfortunately need to leave our lovely chickens behind. If you're interested in chickens but still not 100% confident, this is the right deal for you. If you're unhappy with them after three months, we'll gladly take them back. They're much-loved birds.

One is an Isa Brown and the other is an Auracana/Orpington mix. Both are regular layers offering about 10 eggs a week.

We would like to leave them with an animal lover and with plenty of space. They only go into a run/coop at night, so they're used to having the entire yard to play in. Call me or email if you have any questions.

Chicken Sitting

Chicken sitting 6th to 20th January.

Hi folks -  I have some bantam chickens that need babysitting - 

They will be at Grey court in Coburg. 

They need locking up at night and letting out in the morning - feed and water topping up. 

Will pay $100 for the two weeks, plus any eggs you collect! They are friendly - will eat out of your hand and will tolerate a pat!

These beautiful chooks are ready for their backyard forever homes. They are very street smart, perching, were raised here from day old, fully beaked and great foragers, 18mth. 

Good to go for another few years. $6 each, $5ea for ten, $4ea for twenty. 

Collection in the evenings all this week. Please ask any questions and share with your friends let's find them a home.

Hello Newlands Community!

Currently we have a flock of CERES Farm Isa Brown friendly Hens needing to be re homed.

They were hatched on 2 February 2015 and have been vaccinated against Mareks, Newcastle and Fowl Pox.

We need to be able to provide them with safe, secure and loving new homes.

Please bring a secure, clean and ventilated container to collect them in, pet type carriers are ideal.

We do ask for a small fee, $5 per hen. 

Collection days and times as follows:

Tuesday 7 March at 7-30 pm

Wednesday 8 March at 7-30 pm

Saturday morning 11 March at 7-30 am

Monday morning  13 March at 7-30 am

Monday night 13 March at 7-30 pm

Lost chickens!

These two chickens have found their way into our backyard. Are they yours? Or do you know someone who has lost chickens?

We have a temporary coop for them but don't want to keep them, so if we can't find their owners they will be looking for new homes. Are you interested? They seem like nice chickens.

Edgar's Mission

URGENT PLEA FOR LOVING & SAFE HOMES FOR RESCUED BATTERY HENS


Without your urgent help we cannot save them all and they will be sent to slaughter next week. Edgar’s Mission has been contacted yet again by a battery hen farmer who has had a change of heart and wants to exit the industry. Most importantly, he wants to spare his hens the fate of being slaughtered.  But we have a problem, we need to collect and rehome the hens this coming weekend (Saturday the 11th and Sunday 12th of May) as we simply do not have the room to accommodate an extra 800 chickens here at the sanctuary. Here’s how you can help:

1. Open your heart and home to one or more rescued battery hens
2. Donate to our medical fighting fund to ensure we can provide veterinary care to those hens who require it.
3. Volunteer at the sanctuary this Saturday, Sunday or Monday (you will need to be at the farm by 9.30am).

IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ -Those wishing to adopt a hen will need to complete our Prospective Adoption Form. When picking up your new feathered family members, you will need to bring suitable carry cages or boxes that can comfortably accommodate the number of hens you wish to adopt. Hens must be collected from Edgar’s Mission, 365 McHargs Road, Willowmavin, Victoria, this Saturday 11th May from noon or Sunday 12th May from 9.30am.  Special arrangements can be made for Monday collection but it is imperative the hens are rehomed ASAP.  This is an enormous undertaking to move such a large number of hens in such a short space of time but we truly believe we can pull this off.  Please don’t let us or the hens down and please share far and wide.

Animal Liberation Victoria is looking to give 200 chooks a home. Can you take a couple? If not, perhaps you could pass this on to friends who you think could help.

"200 homes needed! We are in the process of rescuing 200 free range laying hens who have been abandoned. The hens are being eaten alive by predators, and are being killed or injured on a daily basis. Injured hens have been left to die slow painful deaths all the while at risk of being eaten alive by rats and crows.

The property owner has asked ALV to rescue these hens and we will, but we need your help! If you are able to offer any hens a loving forever home or know someone who can please email us at info@alv.org.au. Thank you!"

We need a chook house built!

HI,

We are moving to Research end of September, and looking for a competent handyperson who could build us a substantial chookhouse. Our chooks currently are predominately free range with a built in enclosure that we can’t take with us, and the property in Research is more or less fenceless and large. We will have access to the property from Aug 23 and will need it built before we move in end of September.

We have no idea how this should be done, so are after someone who knows about chooks and the requirements of their enclosure, and has the skills to get it together! The right price for the right job is on offer!
