Street Art of Our Town – Writing Walk

Join us for a creative writing walk in response to public art in the streets of Coburg. 

Saturday 25th October 11am-1pm. 

Meet in front of the old Coburg Train Station.
Please bring writing materials, walking shoes, umbrella, sunscreen, snacks and a bottle of water. Be prepared for change of weather and a bit of walking.

Hi Locals,

I have started a Facebook group with the purpose of hosting community rituals and spaces - about 4 times a year - the first of these will be next week, here is a bit of an idea of what it will involve:

As we emerge from Winter to Spring there will be an invitation to reflect in nature, to share in the online space in relation to that and to share via nature objects in a designated space along the Creek. Details will be provided in the days prior to the event which will be run over the week to allow you to participate in your own time and be available to all.

This is a free community event that will be held over next week so you can participate in your own time in a covid safe way, there are guidelines for participation set out in the group.

Refugees -10 years in detention

Solidarity Community Event!

Join as at this event to acknowledge and support friends who are still in detention – some imprisoned for more than 10 years by Australian Governments!

We will showcase music videos, art and poetry produced by refugees whilst imprisoned and in community, who have suffered greatly from Australia’s cruel policies.

There will be refugee speakers talking about life in detention and community and featured artists include Abdul Samad Haidari, Moz from Manus, Farhad Bandesh, and more artists to be announced from Writing Through Fences.

We will be painting banners and placards to highlight 10 years in detention in the lead up to International Human Rights Day 10 December (so wear clothes you don’t mind getting paint on)!

Not all disabilities are obvious, some are hidden or invisible. For every person who has a visible disability, there are at least four who have an invisible disability.

This can include autism, low vision, hearing loss, ADHD, MS and other chronic illnesses and lived experience of mental illness.

This lack of recognition and understanding can lead to discrimination and judgements from others.

Don’t assume.

Disability comes in many forms.

This project includes a street gallery of artworks by artists with disabilities in public spaces in Moreland, an event on December the 6^th at Coburg Civic Centre and a street sticker campaign.

Visible/Invisible Street Gallery

Artists with disabilities have created artwork on the theme Invisible Disability. The work is exhibited in public spaces in Glenroy, Fawkner, Brunswick and Coburg. Please see flyers attached (pdf and text only options) for locations and more info or go to

Love Water - Protect Forests: A musical evening to celebrate our forests

 

Around one hour away from Preston stand the magnificent mountain ash forests of the central highlands. These are the tallest flowering trees and most carbon dense forests in the world, and are home to our iconic wildlife.  Melbourne's fresh drinking water relies on the health of these forests which are currently being logged.

Come to hear beautiful music and gain insights about these rare and threatened ecosystems from highly regarded ecologists who have built up practical knowledge. What is the forest's role in bringing us our life sustaining water supply?
Featuring the sumptuous music of the Orbweavers. Drawing on love of history and science the Orbweavers have charmed audiences with evocative songs of creeks, quarries and industrial landmarks. Also Sanacori Italian Ensemble - mesmerising southern Italian tarantella music to raise our senses and drive us to forest protection action!
