Second Release/CSA

Taggart’s is excited to announce the second release of our small scale, free-range, ethically prepared pork. As before, our pork will be sold in mixed boxes at $26 kg with a selection of the best cuts, including roasts, chops and belly. After the success of our hams and sausages, both these products will be available as part of the boxes along with our first release of bacon. Boxes will be ready approximately the 2nd week of February. As ever boxes are limited so get in quick to avoid disappointment.

We are also looking for expressions of interest to join a C.S.A. (Community Supported Agriculture). As we reach our optimum size, whilst keeping true to our ethos of “small-scale, free-range, ethical”, pork releases will be more frequent and we are looking for regular customers. Most of you probably know of C.S.A. and what it involves but in a nutshell you subscribe to receive an amount of pork on a regular basis. You support us to keep doing what we do and we help you eat meat that has been bred and raised humanely.

To make an order or if you have any questions send an email or jump over to our Facebook page where you can also keep up to date with what’s going on and check up on our happy little porkers.

Free Range Pork

Untitled-2

Hi Neighbours.

You may have had the chance to try out this beautiful pork at Andy's 50th, if not I can vouch for it's taste and the ethical farming practices of Danny and Ange.

I did a bit of research about pig farming in Australia and found some fairly inhumane common practices on this website http://www.aussiepigs.com/facts

Tail and teeth cutting without anaesthetic is performed to reduce tail biting between piglets and pigs, sow stalls are metal cages which female pigs are confined to after being mated (or serviced, as the industry refers to it) by a male pig (boar) or artificially inseminated. They remain in the stalls for 6-16 weeks. The stalls are barely large enough for a fully grown female pig to take a single step forward or backward, and they are unable to move sideways at all, farrowing crates are a very well-kept industry secret. With all the focus on the hideous sow stalls not many consumers have been alerted to the fact that female pigs are actually confined to even smaller cages after giving birth to their babies.

Here in Newlands we have another wonderful opportunity to bypass the general practices of large scale farming and buy ethical meat that has been raised close by.

Last call for first orders!

Taggart's Paddock Pork are happy to announce we are only one week away from our inaugural release of our small scale, free range, ethical pork.

The order list is filling fast but there are still a few boxes available on a first come first serve basis.

The boxes will contain a selection of roasts, cutlets, mince, belly/ribs and chops.

The price is $26kg and boxes will be around the 8kg mark.

Pick up will be Friday June 30th in Coburg North 6-7pm.

Order now at taggartspork@gmail.com and we will confirm your order and give you pick up address.

For more information on our pork and what we do check out our Facebook page.

Pork

Untitled-2

Free Range Paddock to Plate Pork

This is a call for expressions of interest for paddock raised pork.

Our pork comes from a crossbreed of a Large Black Boar and a Berkshire Sow raised 100km north of Melbourne on the foothills of the Cathedral Ranges in Taggerty. They spend their life outdoors in open pasture free to forage and root about as pigs like to do.

The Pigs are fed on a mixture of commercial premix grain, spent mash from a small Melbourne micro brewery, organic fruit and vegetables from a Melbourne wholesaler, excess fruit from the local community and eggs from a Yarra Valley free range chicken farmer.

The first release will be available in about 2 - 3 months then another consignment available a few weeks later.

Initially the packs will be between 8-10kgs at $25kg.

These packs will include a mixture of the below:

Chops
Sausages
Roasts
Cuttlets
Mince

As part of our commitment to sustainable farming and small scale production we decided to have our pigs processed at an on farm facility that upholds higher animal welfare practices.

Please direct all expressions of interest to Danny on dannydalton52@gmail.com

Thanks for your consideration.

Ang & Danny.
