Hello Newlands Community!

Thank you all so much for your donations to the ASRC Food Drive!

The car is FULL with your donations and the ASRC will be thrilled to receive these, as will the families who will get immediate relief from these items.

We live in such a kind and generous community and it has been lovely to meet some of you as you drop off items, or to find little parcels on the doorstep.

Have a great Christmas and New Year period.

Warmest regards,

Prue x

Taken

Untitled-2

Hi Newlanders,

Thanks for all of your interest in the cargo bike, I was overwhelmed with responses and thought it would be easier to announce it here that it has been taken.

I like to think it will stay in the Newlands community once each owner has had their turn so you may see it around one day!

Hi there,

I would like to thank the little girl who turned my phone into the customer service desk at Woolies on Tuesday afternoon. I certainly worried it might be gone, but did hold out hope because we live in such a great community. How happy I was to be proven correct!

Thanks for making this neighbourhood great and for helping me out.

Rylee.

Thank You Moreland Council

Untitled-2

A big shout out to Moreland council for their acquisition of creek side land on the Merri in line with their open space strategy.

A gift to current and future generations of creek lovers and to the creek itself!

A letter from the Mayor:

I am delighted to advise you that Council has just purchased the property at 2 Spry St. The property purchase will settle in 30 days and straight after this time we will be subdividing the house from the land (the house is a smaller parcel within area A) and opening up the remainder of the land to public use (see map below). We think this will be a wonderful addition for the community as it provides a much wider buffer to the creek protecting and enhancing the creek corridor, provide access from Spry St onto the creek and open up the land for public enjoyment. We will on-sell the house after it has been subdivided, provide pedestrian access from Spry St. and hold on to the majority of the land for public use. What a wonderful community asset this will be!

Thank you for highlighting this parcel to us and your interest in this land, we are delighted to be able to acquire it for our community.

Hi Newlanders,

Last week I packed my station wagon FULL of donations for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre after putting the call out here on the Newlands Community blog.

We had everything from pasta, tuna, and rice to beautiful coats and even brand new slippers and blankets.

The folks at ASRC were thrilled to receive your donations and we have received a letter of thanks.
I do hope you realise what a huge difference you have made for people seeking asylum and doing it tough.

Thank you for your kindness and generosity, Newlanders. You rock.

Prue x

From the ASRC:

Hi,  Newlands community,
When I opened the doors of the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) last Sunday at 7:30am, I had no idea that by the day's end, nearly 2000 people you would have donated around $150,000 worth of food and enough coats and blankets to keep every person we are assisting warm this Melbourne winter. Incredible!

A nonstop flow of humanity at its finest filled our car park and the one next to it too for five hours straight. As far as the eye could see.

Newlanders.....you made this possible! Your donation is giving back if even a little bit of dignity to thousands of refugees and people seeking asylum. Thank you.

THANK YOU NEIGHBOURS

A big thank you to everyone who reached out to support my dear neighbour a few weeks ago. Your generosity contributed to easing the pressure in a most difficult time. At present, the family has put everything into storage, they are staying with a relative and still applying for rental properties. Thanks again.

At our most recent clothes swap, we raised $150.00 for Louise who recently lost her house and belongings to a fire and was left with virtually nothing. She would like to pass on heartfelt thanks to the Newlands community for such kindness and generosity.

Hello Newlanders.

With the funds raised from our sunny Clothes Swap a few weeks back the senior students of Sydney Road Community School were able to attend a very inspiring lecture from Bob Brown.

The event was organised by a lovely local for VCE students across the state.

Bob shared his optimism for life and living on a healthy planet with the students and they really appreciated his sentiments.

Thank you for making this possible!

Hi to the Newlands Community.
A big thank you to everyone who has donated items to the asylum seeker family who had their payments stopped by the Immigration Department.
The family is extremely grateful to everyone for their generosity and kindness.
The Immigration Department has reinstated the families payments so their immediate crises is over.
The response has been extraordinary so a big thank you from myself and everyone at the community centre for your support.
Cheers,
Jenny Rayner.

A thank you message...

To the presumably local and definitely amazing person or persons who left a surprise in our letterbox - you took our breath away and knocked our socks off.
Unbelievable.
It will be put to good use.

Thank you!

Hi Newlands News,

We would like to thank everyone for their generous response to our nappy post. We've been thrilled with the donations of nappies and newborn toys/wraps that people have left - it's very kind and heartening in the face of such recent negative media coverage of refugee policy. We have enough of everything for now!!

Thanks again - Johanna.
