Hi Newlanders,
Last week I packed my station wagon FULL of donations for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre after putting the call out here on the Newlands Community blog.
We had everything from pasta, tuna, and rice to beautiful coats and even brand new slippers and blankets.
The folks at ASRC were thrilled to receive your donations and we have received a letter of thanks.
I do hope you realise what a huge difference you have made for people seeking asylum and doing it tough.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity, Newlanders. You rock.
Prue x
From the ASRC:
Hi, Newlands community,
When I opened the doors of the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) last Sunday at 7:30am, I had no idea that by the day's end, nearly 2000 people you would have donated around $150,000 worth of food and enough coats and blankets to keep every person we are assisting warm this Melbourne winter. Incredible!
A nonstop flow of humanity at its finest filled our car park and the one next to it too for five hours straight. As far as the eye could see.
Newlanders.....you made this possible! Your donation is giving back if even a little bit of dignity to thousands of refugees and people seeking asylum. Thank you.
