Safety Check

Untitled-2

Gas Heater Service & Safety Check
With winter approaching, it may be time to have your gas heater serviced to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. Gas heaters can produce dangerous levels of carbon monoxide when dust or dirt builds up, ducts become blocked or the combustion process does not properly occur.

Danger signs to look out for around gas and other fuel-burning appliances include:

·         Sooting, yellow or brown staining on or around your appliance, walls, ceiling or below the appliance.
·         Peeling paint above appliance
·         Excessive condensation in the room where the appliance is installed
·         Languid yellow or orange coloured gas flame, rather than a sharp blue one
·         Pilot lights that frequently blow out
·         Sooting spots on the ground and underneath appliance

Ways you can protect your family from carbon monoxide poisoning:

·         Have your gas appliances fitted by a licensed gasfitter
·         never use fuel-burning appliances in enclosed and un-vented spaces
·         Never bring an outdoor gas appliance inside your home
·         Never leave your car’s engine running idle in an enclosed space, like the garage
·         Service all gas appliances regularly minimum requirement, as per the manufacturers recommendation or at least every two years as recommended by Energy Safe Victoria;
·         Have a high standard audible carbon monoxide alarm fitted outside sleeping areas and living areas

If you service your heater regularly and use it correctly, it should be safe and economical to use, however some older heaters cannot be repaired for safety reasons and should be replaced.

Mix Plumbing are licensed to complete gas fitting works and provide gas heater servicing and carbon monoxide testing of gas heaters including wall units, central heating units, decorative log fires and space heaters. I'm a qualified plumber who is currently studying Environmental Science / Environmental Policy at RMIT. My interest is creating integrated plumbing and waste systems that reduce energy, create productive vegetable gardens and increase biodiversity.  I believe that through applying permaculture principles and using technology that can assist in a positive way that sustainability in an urban environment can be achieved.

Great Plumber!

Untitled-2

Hi!
We have just found a really good plumber who fixed our ancient instant hot water heater.
He was able to explain the problem and seems to charge reasonable rates.

Plumber needed!!

Plumber Needed!

Please can anyone out there recommend a good (and inexpensive) plumber?  We have a tap that won't turn off fully so we need to keep switching on and off at the mains.

Thanks,

Wendy
