Zero Waste Market

Untitled-2

Moon Rabbit are holding a Zero-Waste Market next Saturday as part of the National Sustainability Festival!

WHEN: 9am - 2pm, Saturday 27th February

WHERE: Bridge Darebin Community Hall (99 Leinster Grove, Thornbury)

FB EVENT: https://www.facebook.com/events/531186221135405

What's the Zero-Waste Market? Glad you asked!

The Zero-Waste Market is a family-friendly day out, featuring Moon Rabbit's On the Hop cafe van, as well as a pop-up Bulk Foods Collective. There'll be stalls showcasing some of the amazing local businesses and makers that are guided by community sustainability, caring for the local environment and cultural heritage. But wait, that's not all! There'll also be live music, kid-friendly activities, a Bokashi bin raffle and FREE babycinos, courtesy of On the Hop.

Pop into the hall to shop for your everyday essentials at the Bulk Foods Collective - prices are discounted for members and staff. Then stop by Northcote Bakeshop for all your bakery needs, before stocking up on fresh fruit & veg at the Melbourne Food Hub. Head on outside and peruse the local stallholders - there's lots to behold; art, homewares, jewellery, zero-waste tips and more! By now you're probably ready to grab a coffee and a bite from On the Hop and relax in our seating area to enjoy some live music. As for the kids, there's lots to keep them busy between FREE babycinos, the Boomerang bag crafting stall and the plant-a-seed stall. At these activities they'll be able to decorate reusable tote bags and plant their own take-home seedlings!

Words by Sailor's Grave Brewing:

"Dark Emu ~ Dark Lager our collaboration with Bruce Pascoe using the addition of roasted mamadyang ngalluk and burru ngalluk grass seed from the Far East harvested by Yuin people on the banks of the Wallagaraugh River.

The beautiful art on the can depicts the giant creator emu, baiame, after it left earth and rose into the sky, becoming the huge dark space in the Milky Way. It was created by Yuin man Terry Hayes who also harvested the grain used in Dark Emu.

We truly are the lucky country to share this with our indigenous brothers and sisters.

We thank Uncle Bruce Pascoe & family for entrusting us with this project and we pay our respects to ancestors and Elders past and present of the lands in which we dream, learn and live".

Wow - that snap lockdown went fast, and we're delighted to be able to open up the houses again!

It's been so nice to have people back in the houses stretching, playing with clay and connecting with families. We wanted to let you know about a few other stand-out events coming up in our program.

Slow Art Collective
We are partnering with the amazing Slow Art Collective to build a large-scale interactive artwork out the front of the East Coburg Neighbourhood House! The structure will use bamboo, yarn, fabrics and flowers, and you are invited to add your own special stamp to the installation.

We will be launching this one-of-a-kind art project on Thursday 4th of March - 4.30 - 6.30pm with some special guest entertainment for all the family, The Prophets!

We also have two further workshops with Slow Art on Wednesdays throughout the month. These workshops will be a riot of weaving, building with natural materials, creating wearable art works, talking and constructing our Slow Art future visions. All ages welcome! Book for one or all here.

Passata Party
Did you have success with your tomatoes this season? We've had a bit of a mixed bag (what's with those green ones that never ripened?!) On the 27th of March we are hosting our first ever annual Passata Party. We'll be wheeling out our Mouli machine and teaching you to make your very own tomato sauce (tomatoes provided - but feel free to bring your own if you like!) Lunch with an authentic Nonna included - this one is booking fast so click here to secure your place

Garden Launch - postponed
Sadly, due to the lockdown we had to postpone the launch of the Gardening Series & NUCA's Community Climate Action series. However, we're putting our heads together to find a new date soon & we'll keep you posted.

We are still going ahead with our next Gardening Workshop on the 27th of Feb where we chat about all types of gardens.

Keeping our fingers crossed for ongoing low Covid numbers - please remember to mask up and sign in on arrival. As always, you can email enquiries@necchi.org, we love to hear from you.

Recommendation Sought

Untitled-2

Hello,

We live in the Newlands area. We're looking at knocking out a kitchen window that currently leads to an extension, which would make the kitchen window into a walkway.  Seeing as all our kitchens have such comparable layouts,  I am wondering if anyone has done similar and could pm me about how they went about it/any pitfalls of the process?

Also any recommendations of a good local builder would be much appreciated!

Thanks neighbours!

Please post suggestions on the blog, or text me on 0432 594 244, it would be incredibly helpful!
