Climate Change Forum

Untitled-2

CLIMATE FORUM WITH MARK BUTLER, SHADOW MINISTER FOR CLIMATE CHANGE AND ENERGY AND GED KEARNEY MP FOR BATMAN

This is an important chance to show how much people in this area care about the climate and reinforce that politicians of all varieties need to take the climate crisis and the climate movement seriously. It’s also a great chance to let them know that sitting on the fence on Adani is not good enough.

Place:

The Shire Hall, 286 Gowers Street
Description:

Start Date:

30 Aug 2018 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm

RSVP here on Ged’s website.

Some thoughts about what we want:
A strong Renewable Energy Target, Stop Adani- rule it out now, no more subsidies for fossil fuels, no new coal, A lot of investment in renewables and low carbon technology generally (increase funding for ARENA and CEFC), planning regarding climate change to be budgeted into all ministries activities and Labor to speak up about extreme weather events (like the current drought) connected to climate change.

Feel free to contact Danny from Newlands Parents For Climate Action diesendorf@optusnet.com.au
Newlands Parents For Climate Action has 51 members but that doesn’t include many of the kids and teenagers also involved!

The forum is supported  by Darebin City Council as part of Community Safety Month.

The forum will hear from Aboriginal, Muslim and African speakers about their experiences of racism and gather ideas to counter it by creating a more inclusive atmosphere in our local area. The Napthine Government has cut more than $300 million a year from TAFE, with drastic impacts for students who now face much higher fees, fewer course options and much reduced support with their studies.

TAFE 4 All is a campaign to restore proper funding to public TAFE and better regulate the funding available to private providers who do not always have the best interests of students at heart.

TAFE 4 All is hosting a community forum this Thursday Nov 6th from 5 - 6.30pm at the Darebin Arts and Entertainment Centre that explores what has happened to TAFE in the Northern region, and what we can do about it.

All candidates for the State Election have been invited - its really important that we show them the community cares about having a high quality public TAFE system that provides real opportunities for people wanting vocational training and work, including early school leavers, migrants and refugees, people needing to retrain, women wanting to reenter the workforce.

All welcome! Enquiries to meaghan.flack@aeuvic.asn.au or 9418 4886.
