Fresh this morning from Max and Maria at Lake Boga, I have certified 
organic apricots, white & yellow peaches, and white nectarines all for 
only $8/kg.

Magnificent biodynamic Merchant cherries from Neville at Red Hill for $12/kg.

Ripe avocados are 5 for $4.

Fresh organic sourdough bread this morning from Gerald at Crumbs Ascot Vale.

I finally went to Merri Organics on Newlands Rd and got 5 avocados for $5!!!

 If, like I did, you’re not too sure of where it is, when it’s opened and so on, here’s more info.

From my place on Elizabeth St. I went along the creek to the confluence then across the soon-to-be-wetland-golf practice area to the top northern houses backing that area. From there, you’ll see a concrete alleyway rising to Newlands Road.  Go climb it! Turn right past the servos, and it is one of the shops there.

Opening days are Tuesdays to Saturdays as follows: Tuesday, Thursday, Friday till 5, Wednesday till 3, Saturday till 12 or 1. I can’t remember if it opens at 9 or 10 am so maybe someone else go and post full and precise opening times on the blog!

 You can safely take your kids for a stroll or bike ride there: there is a kid’s corner with books and stuff and no crappy stuff they can pester you to buy. There are also some conventional veggies if that’s what you want. For the organic stuff, labels tell you where they where grown.

 Next time I’ll go I’ll drop off some fresh marjoram from my garden (it badly needs a cut back!) for the free food swap corner. It is opened till Xmas; beyond if the community makes it worthwhile.

I enjoyed walking through parklands and back to get my veggies, sure beats traffic, so maybe see you there!

Merri Creek Organics

Hi Everyone,

You might have noticed a bit of new activity in one of the old shops 
in that little strip of shops near the bottom end of Newlands rd, near 
the servo.

So, some of that activity is Merri Creek Organics, a new organic & 
biodynamic fruit shop that I've fitted out and opened partially this 
week.

Proper opening will be on Monday Oct 13, with a slowly growing range 
of fresh food. I'll carry high quality conventional produce as well, 
to give everyone another price point to choose from, up to you guys.

Aiming to get a small food swap corner going in the shop too as our 
local season unfolds. My landlord, Pepino, has got the ball rolling by 
bringing in some of his fantastic endive lettuce, for a bit of 
sharpness to cut through in our diets.

Pop through if you have time, and check out my very competitive 
prices. I have been buying in the wholesale market for 18 years, have 
retailed before and back up my passion with an Ag Science and farming 
background. Plenty of information available about our food if you want 
it !

Dear locals,

I am starting an organic and natural foods business – SELF – Wellbeing Supermarket.  I realise there are a few co-ops in the area – however if you are not part of a co-op this could be your new local source of great high quality organic and natural foods.  And if you are part of a co-op maybe this could supplement your other purchases.
