Call for Applications:  Speak Out | Spoken Word Event In conjunction with the 2018 Moreland Summer Show exhibition, The Counihan Gallery In Brunswick is seeking speakers to participate in: SPOKEN WORD | PEACE AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS Saturday 1 December, 2:30 pm on the speaker’s plinth outside the gallery on Sydney Road If you are a writer, poet, spoken word artist, rapper, singer or rabblerouser and would like to respond to the theme Peace and the Pursuit of Happiness please email a biography and indicative draft or summary of your intended piece. Speakers of all levels of experience welcome and entry is free. Presentations should not exceed 5 minutes. multi-instrumentalental classes this Friday, Saturday and next week at our community music school for kids from birth to adults 🎶🎻🎸

Children learn through playing and explore musical elements and musical theory through student-centred and nurturing lessons taught by qualified music teaching professionals. We have been likened to a mini conservatorium of music 🎸🎼

Ceramics Studio Sale this Saturday

I am opening up my back-yard ceramics studio in Preston for an end-of-year sale this Saturday, 10th of December. 

I have a range of cups, beakers, small bowls (for salt/olives/dips) plus vases... and some lidded jars great for re-heating meals. My work is mostly wheel thrown, although some pieces are pinched or coil-built. I'm happy to talk about my materials and process to anyone who comes along. 

I'll be offering 20% off my normal market prices… so that will make most cups $20 or less and vases typically $25-$35, to give you an idea. I'll have some seconds available too.

Bring the kids if you like - I'll set up a clay-play area.

Moreland is developing its new Arts and Culture Strategy and we want to hear from you

The Strategy will articulate how Moreland supports, advocates and collaborates with its creative sector – to make sure we set the right priorities and develop strategies that will address those priorities we need your input!

We will have a number of consultation events during 2016 but for now we would like for you to fill in our survey which is only open until 10 April 2016.

The survey asks questions such as

·         What do you think Moreland is doing well with its support of creative activities?

·         What would you like to see Moreland do differently?

·         What do you see as the most critical areas the next Moreland Arts and Culture strategy should focus on?

·         How can Council partner with artists or organisations to support artists and cultural programs in Moreland?

This information will be critical for us understanding which areas to focus our attention on as priorities so please take some time to fill in the survey.

We are hoping to tap into Newlands creative side.  Our friends at the Valley Design Market are looking for stall holders for their upcoming event on Sunday 15 November in Flemington. They have had an overwhelmingly big response from market goers, and have decided to make room for some more stalls.

This year’s exhibition theme is ‘SCIENCE FRICTION’. If you are a writer, poet, song writer, rapper or orator (or sometimes are) who lives, works, studies or bases your creative practice in the City of Moreland you are now invited to submit a composition to complement the theme of the show for consideration for a SPOKEN WORD public program event at the Counihan Gallery in Brunswick on SATURDAY 5 DECEMBER, 2.30 pm. About the Event: Each speaker will have 5 minutes maximum in which to read or recite their composition, with a last minute signal bell at 4 minutes. The MC and bellringer will be Paddy O’Reilly, author and Moreland Arts Board member. Successful applicants will be invited to recite their piece in their chosen style. Numbers are strictly limited. Individual applications only – no group entries please. This is a free public event. Entrants should be advised that their participation will be voluntary. Catering will be provided for the event.  Gallery entry is free as always. DEADLINE: FRIDAY 14 NOVEMBER, 5 PM

Morgan Court Exhibition Space

Call for expressions of interest for public art - season 1

The opportunity

Morgan Court is a small public plaza located in the heart of Glenroy. It is currently undergoing a $500,000 upgrade by Moreland Council, which will make it a more welcoming and user-friendly space.

One of the most exciting features of the upgraded space is the inclusion of four exhibition boxes, which will host a series of artworks or objects as part of a rolling exhibition program throughout the year.

Council is calling for submissions from artists who would like to display works in these boxes for a minimum period of 6-8 weeks between July and December 2015.

Indicative project stages and timings for season 1

Series 1 - July/August 2015 (Submissions have now closed)

Series 2 - September/October 2015 (Submissions close 7 August 2015)

Series 3 - November/December 2015 (Submissions close 7 August 2015)

Writers, poets, song writers, rappers, novelists, orators, rabble rousers and soap boxers who live, work, study or base their creative practice in the City of Moreland are now invited to submit a composition to complement the theme of the show for consideration toward a SPOKEN WORD public program event to be held at The Counihan Gallery in Brunswick Saturday 29 November, 2.30 pm.

Terms of Reference

·       Develop and advise Council on policy and annual priorities relating to the arts;

·       Develop community involvement and networks and promote participation in the arts;

·       Act as a body for marketing and fostering understanding and appreciation of the positive role that the arts have in supporting the development of cultural opportunities;

·       Provide a structure through which views and interests of the Moreland community can be articulated for the attention of Council and its staff;

·       Contribute to any future review of Council’s involvement in facilitating the arts in Moreland that may occur; and

·       Establish and facilitate specific issues sub-committees deemed appropriate by Council.
