Darebin Cat Curfew

Letting folk know about the cat curfew in Darebin: 

At its meeting held on the 17^th August 2020, Council voted in support of the introduction of a 7pm till 7am (year-round) cat curfew, after feedback from the community consultation returned a 77% in favour result.

The curfew was formally gazetted in the Victorian Government Gazette on 12^th November 2020 and a notice was placed in The Age on the 11^th November 2020.

Registered cat owners within the City of Darebin have been formally notified via mail and Council’s website has been updated, including information in community languages. 

The cat curfew to come into effect on 1 January 2021.

Free Whitegoods Pick Up Service

Hello all,

We recently had to replace our washing machine and found a great service in Melbourne, Kids Off The Kerb, which took it off our hands for free for refurbishment or recycling. 

To quote the website: "The young people involved in the program are trained to test, repair and clean the used whitegoods and electronics whilst developing a greater understanding of sustainability and community. Through the program the young people improve their skills and create education and employment pathways."

They accept any white goods, but are mainly after fridges, washing machines, and dryers. You can drop them off at their depot in Thomastown or request a free pick up service. This is available to Darebin and Moreland residents. 

They also sell the refurbished goods as well. 

Such a great idea and easy way for us to send our sad machines on to a better life.

Community Info...

Just wanted to let the community know that in place of our much-loved and sadly missed butcher/mixed business in Elizabeth St. we are going to get a chocolate factory/shop! I hope this is good news, but I am not sure ... it is the chocolatier from the corner of Johnson and Brunswick Sts (chocolate macaroon prizewinner) so we may all be doomed to pile on the kilos.
