Attempted Burglary

Untitled-2

Hello, Neighbours,

Just reporting an attempted burglary: our cleaner’s van was parked in our driveway on McGowan Avenue on Sunday afternoon when she noticed a man trying to break into her rear car door. When she confronted him he fled in a VW car (she is unsure of the model or age of the car).

Remember to keep your doors locked and all valuables out of sight.

Parcel Theft

Untitled-2

Hi Everyone,

Someone is stealing mail and parcels in our area.

It may be the same woman we caught several months back (my neighbour chased after her but she got away).

We reported it to police. They said to do the following:

- Put a lock on your letterbox if you can.
- You can write a sign on your letterbox that says "No Safe Drop" and your parcels will be taken to the post office for collection (if it's Australia Post).
- You can install CCTV (or a fake camera).

If the same woman who stole from myself and neighbours is the culprit - she rides her bike from post box to post box (I heard a rumour recently that lately she's been following the parcel/postal van), she is in her mid to late 30s, Caucasian, dressed sporty and middle-class - wearing lycra, helmet and sunglasses.

If you have something go missing, report it to the Police and Australia Post or the relevant courier company.

Burglary

Untitled-2

Just a heads up for folks to be aware.

We are in Boyne St and were broken into this week. Pretty bold - early evening, smashed a large side window and ransacked the house, apparently looking for cash and other mobile valuables.

We lost computers and some valuable jewelry with sentimental value. Could have been worse but pretty unpleasant. Good time to revisit security measures.

Attempted Break In

Untitled-2
I thought my fellow Newlanders would like to know that there was an attempted break-in at my house on Jackson Parade. I am not sure when this happened as I only noticed something amiss when I went out to collect the paper this morning and saw that some plants under the windows at the front of the house had been trampled. The windows were locked and there is no sign of damage, but it is obvious that someone was there with a view to breaking in. It must have happened in the last few days, as I was last doing some gardening there at the weekend.

Years ago, when there was an attempt to break into my house in Brunswick, the policeman who came to investigate gave me some advice. He said to always keep the front of the house open to the street: that is, no screening by high shrubs and low branches on trees. He also suggested a sensor light and locks on any sliding aluminium windows in addition to the plastic catches that come with them, and a strong piece of dowel in the track to prevent them from sliding very far if forced.

The sensor light does not seem to have been a deterrent in this case, nor the clear view of the front of the house from the street. Perhaps the would-be burglar saw the strong locks on the windows and gave up. I am glad I remembered to lock them!

Burglary

Untitled-2

Hi all,

On Wed morning (about 2am) my neighbour heard some noises outside. She thought it was her son getting ready for work (as he starts really early) but she found out later that it was people stealing things from her garage in her back yard.
They had opened her front and side gate (walked past her parked car) and gone into her back yard to steal a bike, lawn mower, grinder and tins of paint. They also smashed a few previous ceramic things.
This was a very braisen burglary.
This is just a reminder to lock up all your things even if in backyard (especially sheds/garages).

Another Robbery!

Untitled-2

Sunday afternoon around 1.15pm another house was robbed, this time in Ballard Ave. The thieves smashed open the lock on the front door (which is visible from the street) and took jewellery and electronic goods. They'd obviously been watching to see when the family left as they only have one car and often the car will be gone but people will still be home.
I guess all we can do is keep a lookout for people hanging around or cruising, and ask our neighbours to do the same.

Motorbike Theft Response

Untitled-2

Motorbike theft.....

I heard a motorbike on Ronald St, in the early hours of Monday morn, they seemed to be having trouble getting it going, so they kept going back up hill but it would konk out at our house, alas, I didn't get up to have a look but they would've been doing it for a good 15 mins, I was just hoping they would stop soon. I've had my car stolen from outside my house so they could be perpetrators!

Let me know if helps, sorry I didn't see anything though!

Cheers Jo Adams.

Motorbike Theft

Untitled-2

Hello Residents,
At around 1:30 - 2am this morning of February 17 (2014)  did anyone hear a motorbike go into a house,
or hear noise from a backyard?  Our motorbike was stolen from in our driveway.  My partner quickly
got in his car and chased these people and came to near the hill on Jackson Pde.  He lost sight of them
near this point, probably as they turned quickly into Claremont, Boyne or Ballard Streets.  We don't
believe they knew they were being followed.  Two people were on the motorbike.  The passenger
was a very tall, slim person.  Do you have any neighbours with motorbikes, dirt bikes or trail bikes.
Any information that could lead to an arrest will remain confidential with Crimestoppers.
We would really appreciate any information no matter how small.  Thank you
The bike is a Honda CBR purple and yellow but could be stripped down for parts.  Anyone in the area
who is a handyman doing bikes up/selling etc....please can you let us know.

Recent Burglaries in the Area

Untitled-2

Hi folks,
Just a reminder to be vigilant about securing your homes from thieves that appear to be active in the Newlands area at the moment. Both my friend's house and my house have been burgled in the last 2 weeks (Jacka St and Hosken St) with cash, jewellery, iPads and computers taken. Both were daytime break-ins while the houses were empty for a few hours, and in both cases side gates were used to gain access to the properties, and a window and lock were broken to get into the house.
Get to know your neighbours, swap numbers if you feel comfortable, and keep an eye out for anything 'not quite right' in the neighbourhood.

Rebecca.

Burglar Alert!

Untitled-2

Hi – Just thought it’s worth letting people know that we had a break in at 50 Ballard Ave yesterday. Not a lot stolen, just a flat screen TV, Playstation and some games but it’s all very disturbing of course – and I figure people should at least be aware of it both so you can take your own preventative measures and just in case anyone did see anything in the 24 hours from 7.30pm 3/12. Bummer because we’ve only been in the neighbourhood a couple of months…

Thanks,
David Vroland

Another break in.

Hello lovely neighbours,

Our house was also burgled last Wednesday 6/6/12.  They stole computer gear and assorted other stuff.  Obviously it would be great if anyone saw anything at 14 Connolly Ave on this day then it would be much appreciated if you could let us know or contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.  It's certainly is making us more security conscious, and aware of how it impacts beyond the "stuff" which is not so important really, it's more the sense of feeling unsafe and that our home has been violated.  I do appreciate how difficult this may have been for some of our other neighbours who have been through this recently, and hopefully we can prevent it from happening to anyone else.

Cheers,
Cindy and Edward

Burglary

Hi all,

Our house got burgled again. This is the second time since December.  This happened on Friday the 25th of May between 4:30 and 6:30pm. We are on Mehegan ave, closer to Murray Rd. This time they took our Tv and computer. We are getting an alarm system installed asap. I don’t know what's going on in our area, but it seems like we are being targeted. If you saw anything that night, please let us know.

Thanks

Juan and Toona
