1. Lucy Wise w/ Guest Speaker Anna Seed (Visual Artist) – 14th January
Lucy Wise has delighted audiences across Australia and internationally with her masterful storytelling, intricate ukulele and guitar playing and soulful voice. Drawing inspiration from her background in Appalachian and Celtic folk music, as well as legendary songwriters such as Joni Mitchell and Bob Dylan, Lucy’s songs sketch universally recognisable stories that are grounded in the realities of everyday experience.
Lucy will soon be releasing her third album, Winter Sun, which explores themes of love, joy and sadness, friendships and the relationships people form with their environment. She is running a crowdfunding campaign to help cover the costs of the album. Check out the campaign and pledge your support here. By supporting her campaign, you will be able to purchase a ticket for just $10 to this concert.
Anna Seed is an Illustrator living in Melbourne, Australia. Her work is influenced by the nostalgia for her provincial childhood on the Isle of Tasmania. Australian native flora and fauna feature heavily along with sustainable living and a bygone era of mend and make do. Predominantly a traditional media based artist. Anna’s work has sensitivity towards the friendly and relatable characters she creates.
2. Tolka w/ Guest Speaker Bernadette Atkinson (Making Marngrook) – 4th February
Born out of the lively traditional music scene of Melbourne, Tolka have had audiences dancing for over 5 years. In the last 3 years, Tolka have taken their unique blend of original songs and tunes to audiences across Australia and the UK. Their latest album ‘One House’ was produced by Armagh musician Brian Finnegan in Northern Ireland, and won the Age Music Award for Best Folk/Roots album in 2015
The origins of Australian rules football are to be found in the game of Marngrook which was played by Indigenous communities using the Marngrook, a football made from possum skin. Yorta Yorta artist and educator Bernadette Atkinson will talk about the Indigenous history of the game and demonstrate the making of the Marngrook.
3. Zulya & the Children of the Underground w/ Guest Speaker Florian Diguet (Le Cafe Flo) – 18th February
Zulya and The Children of the Underground perform exquisite original music inspired by Zulya’s Tatar and Russian roots. The music defies being labelled, but has been described as “Kurt Weillish, Euro-Cabaret jazz colliding with lullabies constructed to tear your heart out.” Since their formation in 2003, they have enjoyed unprecedented success throughout their native Australia and abroad.
Florian Diguet, a local Cafe owner (Le Cafe Flo) on High St. Thornbury is a talented Chef and well known for his warm presence and the inviting atmosphere in his French Cafe. He will share with us some of his passion for food and hospitality through his years in the industry.

Come celebrate the end of the year with us! The farm gate lands a day after the summer solstice (the longest day of the year) and we are excited to have a few extra goodies on show for your listening pleasure, last minute gifts and final veggie shop up before the public holidays.
We will have with us:

and Lily and Sophia (and possibly a few other locals) selling their homemade cards.
We also have a new stash of honey from Bee Sustainable and our local legend Virginia with her Joe's Market Garden tote bags and homemade jam & marmalade.

This is the channel for Taylor Project, an alt country / indie folk band based in Melbourne, Australia, and often seen in downtown Elmore, the lovely town you can see in "Small Town". Greg Steps is a folk & country singer-songwriter whose songs evoke the vast desolate landscape of Australia’s barren interior. While following in the tradition of archetypal singer-songwriters such as Bob Dylan, Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen, Steps also draws influence from various Australian bands of the 1980's, such as The Go-Betweens, The Triffids and Paul Kelly & The Coloured Girls.
Steps sings & plays guitar alongside Bob Hutchinson on guitar & vocals and Aoife Murphy on fiddle.

Joe’s Market Garden’s Melbourne Cup Day Pick Your Own Broad Beans Family Event: connecting community, tradition and local seasonal produce.
CERES Joe’s Market Garden brings Coburg the first Pick Your Own Broad Bean family event on Melbourne Cup Day. Come November, the broad beans at Joe’s Market Garden are ripe and being picked by the boxful. Instead of trying to back a winner on Cup Day, let’s be part of a local food tradition: gathering together to pick broad beans; immerse in the cultural history of Coburg, Joe’s Garden and the joy of local seasonal produce.
Market gardeners Emily and Monique will be convening their regular market stall with some exciting extra guests for this special family event. Live music, children’s activities, broad bean cooking workshops and a raffle will join with regular market fair. Entry is a suggested donation of $10 at the gate. Half the donations will go towards refugee and asylum seeker assistance.
In the local multicultural community of Coburg, Joe’s Market Garden’s broad beans are famous, having been planted from seeds saved each year since the Garita family acquired the market garden in 1945.
Fresh broad beans are hard to come by in supermarkets as they aren't a vegetable with a long shelf life. If you're a true broad bean connoisseur, you can't eat broad beans unless it has come straight from a farm! Come pick your own on Melbourne Cup Day!
CERES Joe’s Market Garden
Located in Coburg, 2kms north of CERES Environment Park along the Merri Creek bike path. This 1 hectare plot has been farmed continuously by Chinese and Italian gardeners for over 150 years – Joe’s Market Garden is Melbourne’s last surviving inner city market garden. In 2003 CERES began farming here under the guidance of Joe Garita, whose father bought the land in the 1945. Joe’s Market Garden is certified organic farm growing organic herbs and vegetables. Irrigation water is taken from the mains supply and a 100,000 litre underground water tank collects rainwater from neighbouring townhouses. The produce grown is sold through our CERES Fair Food enterprise and at a farm gate stall each Saturday morning. Joe’s Market Garden is now managed by Emily Connor and Monique Miller, the next generation of urban market gardeners.

The Flukes are a local band of many musicians wielding such delights as Ukuleles, Banjoleles and even a double base.
Amazing and charming when they graced the farm gate in August, we are stoked to announce that they are returning for a good old sing along and jam session.
The farm gate will be graced with lovely locals together with their ripper harmonies and tiny ukes.

Melbourne three piece The Norwesterlies playing their original folk/rock/world blend with a classical twist! Led by Phil Hudson from Black Sheep Music on vocals and guitar, Mich Dedek on percussion and clarinet and Tri Nguyen on bass the band also sometimes features a guest violinist. And yep they can all sing! While traversing many places and venues over the years (including Apollo Bay Music Festival, The National Folk Festival, Sydney Road Street Party plus Asian and European adventures) Phil has written songs that make you think and make you laugh.
