CANT COME ON SUNDAY BUT STILL WANT TO JOIN? Just email us to let us know.
Your options
There are four main options for participating:
1. The big choir – rehearsing most but not all Sunday afternoons.
2. The small choir – some extra music to learn and sing, telling Adela's story; and extra rehearsals. All welcome.
3. The street band – rehearsals still being organised, probably from October. If you only  need your hands to play (not your mouth), you might like to also learn the main choir songs.
4. The Unruly Mob – will join the march to Pentridge, play the mob, and sing a couple of the easier songs. Rehearsing in December.
"And dare we talk of peace when wars are raging?"
Artistic Director and composer Jeannie Marsh is drawing on writings, poetry and music from World War 1 for our Street Opera. These include a short poem by local resident and activist Doris Blackburn, published 100 years ago in The Woman Voter, set to music as a magnificent finale:

"Dare we talk peace?
Yes! Talk and sing and shout it".

We'll try out one or two of our new songs on Sunday.
Where and when?
  • If you are new to Serenading Adela, you can read more on our Wordpress blog.
Choir rehearsals will be at 3pm on Sunday afternoons, from September to December. Except the Cup weekend, when our hall is not available Sunday so we are looking at a 4-hour rehearsal on Cup Day (we will check feasibility of this with you when we meet on 3 September).

Full details of our rehearsal schedule will be provided on 3 September, but please note that we will definitely be rehearsing after a Christmas break, from Tuesday 2 January for our major 7 January performance. Please plan to be in town then!

Rehearsals will be held at the 5th City of Brunswick Scout Hall, 213A Weston Street, Brunswick East – a beautiful former church.  Closest tram is Nicholson St, route 96 to Miller Street (stop 23) or Lygon Street routes 1 or 6 to Weston Street (stop 121). Bike via the East Brunswick Shimmy (John Street, links through to Canning Street).

The hall is wheel-chair accessible.

Rehearsals will be led by our Artistic Director Jeannie Marsh, and Brunswick Rogues choir leader Emily Hayes. They will be fun, friendly, and fabulous!

Choir songs will include the beautiful 'Ghosts Don't Lie', written last year by Stephen Taberner. The music's on our Wordpress blog . You can watch us perform it online with soloist Lisa-Maree Parker, who will join us to play Adela.

The evening of Sunday 7 January 2018 will be the centenary performance, exactly 100 years after three or four hundred people gathered outside Pentridge to serenade Adela Pankhurst.

We will also perform outside Brunswick Town Hall – early evening of Wednesday 20 December – and (TBC) on 11 December at Trades Hall.
