Working Vintage Fridge - Free

Untitled-2

Hi all,

I have a beautiful 1950s Frigidaire (cream colour) which is in good working condition. I have used it for over ten years and it has never missed a beat. My grandparents used it since the 1950s.

I have to part with it as I need one with a bigger freezer. I am hoping someone will take it and love it, as it is a beautiful appliance. My new fridge is arriving on the 15th so I can let it go shortly before that. It is super heavy to lift, needs a trolley and a couple of people.

Call Mira on 0415 895 322 if you are interested.

Untitled-2

We have had this beautiful tomcat living on our property in Preston West for quite some time now - since late August perhaps. For a long time we thought he just came for a daily visit but more recently it seems like he has been living under our house.

He is not a stray cat as he is a wearing two collars (unfortunately no information attached). He is a bit shy at first but very friendly. He doesn't mind our 1.5 old daughter teasing him, who is absolutely obsessed with him, therefore I assume he might be used to kids. He is clearly a 'he' (doesn't look desexed), is a black short hair cat  with beautiful green eyes.

If you think he might be yours or know who he could belong to get in contact with me via email on: anna.lemcke@hotmail.com

We thought we try this blog first before taking him to the vet for a microchip check.

Thanks,

Anna.

Newlands Halloween 2013

Hi everyone,
This year Halloween will be on Thursday 31 October. Last year quite a few Newlands kids dressed up and went trick or treating around the neighbourhood. It was great fun and we are getting ready to do it again from about 4.30 pm on Thursday. We are keeping it really local to the Newlands area and just wanted to put it out there that this will be happening in case you and/or your kids would like to join in. Either as trick or treaters or as a house where trick or treaters can visit. Families from surrounding areas are welcome to join in too.

Also I have made a google map showing houses participating (link here - if you're coming from Facebook you need to x out of the networked blogs frame - top right hand corner- before the link will work) and while it's great for it to be a bit random, it would also be great to get a bit of a trail going. Please email me at jmgrigg@bigpond.net.au if you'd like to be added to the map!

VOLUNTEER ESL TUTORS

Would you like to assist new arrivals to Australia?

Are you empathetic, caring and patient?

Do you have some free time once a week?

A volunteer tutor program requires volunteers to help newly arrived refugees and asylum seekers living in the Preston area to learn English.  Volunteers will support a small group of participants during the day once a week, at an agreed, suitable time.

This is a very rewarding experience and a wonderful opportunity to meet and support people in the community from all walks of life.

Teaching experience is not necessary. Training and ongoing support provided. You need to be at least 18 years of age to apply and have strong written and verbal English skills.  Ideally, volunteers sought will provide a 6-12 month commitment, commencing ASAP.

My name is Betty Snowden and I am a highly experienced piano teacher living in Ronald Avenue, Coburg North.

I take students from 5 years onwards and teach classical music with an emphasis on the AMEB exam system. Students need a piano (or keyboard) to practise at home on a regular basis. Lessons are weekly half-hour sessions for $35. I like to teach the mother with small children and am also happy to take adult students.

FoEC October Activity

Untitled-2Hi Friends and Members,
I hope you are enjoying spring!
It has certainly 'sprung' and we will be out on the creek this Sunday enjoying some forecast warm conditions (24 degrees forecast!).
We will be at the Ronald Street area - at the M9 water main crossing site (we'll be easily spotted from Ronald Street - cross at the footbridge). We are planting a small number of shrubs and trees on the day and will also be doing mulching of the site in preparation for a planting event there in early 2014. As preparation for this planting we will have a lot of grassed and other plants that we will be potting up into bigger tubes (a bit like what we did this time last year with the sheoaks if you remember).

As usual Rob and I will be on site from around 10.30-11.00 AM and all are welcome to come along earlier and assist with set-up of the planting and other tasks.

See you on the creek!

Kind regards,
David Pavone
President FoEC.

Golf Range and Recreational Park in Golf Road

Untitled-2

Just wondering if you can make people aware that the recreational park in golf road just off Newlands Road has not been maintained for quite awhile. The grass is very long and is starting to look like a cow paddock. It is not only a recreational park but also a public golf driving range, the only one in the metropolitan area. Maintenance of this park has been very low, grass is long, fallen branches everywhere, and its a haven for things like snakes etc.

All my efforts to clean up this area has fallen on deaf ears, not only is it useless as a golf driving range but those who walk there dogs and take their children there no longer think of it as an enjoyable outing. I am hoping that the local community can lobby the council to maintained the park.

Regards,

Chris.
