The Welcome Bag Project

Untitled-2

I'm helping with a little idea called The Welcome Bag Project which aims to provide a fully stocked school bag to each of the Syrian children soon to be arriving in Victoria. It is being organised through Mums for Refugees who are linked with West Welcome Wagon.

We need donations of new school bags, lunch boxes, water bottles, hats, pencil cases, notebooks, and all sorts of stationary. If anyone would like to help with donations small or large it would be greatly appreciated. It would be lovely if they could start school in 2016 with everything they need as well as a sense of welcome from the community. I would need donations by the 14th January.

For more information you can email me at

Kind regards,

Andrea Wegner.

House Sitting

Untitled-2
Hello,

We have family visiting between the 19th and 24th Jan and wondered if anyone needs house sitters for that period (or slightly longer if that suits)? They/we are more than happy to feed animals and tend to gardens during their stay.

We are also going away between 9th and 13th Jan if anyone would like to mind our house and garden.

Thanks,

Wendy (0432 995 720)

I've just divided my purple irises and have a bazillion spare, so if you'd like some of these tough beautiful plants, you can pick them up from the nature strip outside 4 Ballard Ave.

Cat

Untitled-2

Hi Newlanders, we have returned from holidays to find a dead cat on our nature strip. Someone has left a note with the cat. Sorry if this is your cat, but we thought you would like to know where it is so you can say goodbye. It's grey with black stripes, looks quite young still. It's on the the southern side of Murray Road between the two ends of Connelly Ave.

Free cloth nappies/inserts...

I have a large bag of cloth nappy inserts (some microfibre, some bamboo) that are for folding up and putting into a pouch-style nappy cover like Eennies. I have the covers too but having been used for two kids already the elastic and Velcro is not what it should be.
Some old fashioned cloth nappies (squares) in there too.

526 Bus

Untitled-2

Kelvin Thomson MP letter re 526 bus service upgrade request:

The Member for Wills, Kelvin Thomson MP, has written the following letter to Minister for Public Transport, Jacinta Allan.
Maybe some of us community members would want to write too as it is really not good enough that there is no Sunday or late evening service.

The Hon Jacinta Allan MP
Minister for Public Transport
Minister for Employment
Level 20, 1 Spring Street
MELBOURNE VIC 3000

Dear Minister,
BUS ROUTE 526 – COBURG TO WEST PRESTON – IMPROVEMENTS SOUGHT TO SERVICE LEVELS/ SPREAD OF HOURS
I am writing to you in strong support of the request that you upgrade route 526 to a seven day service that runs later into the evening. At present the last bus leaving Coburg for West Preston during the week is at 7.30pm, which is early in the evening. On Saturday the last bus is 5.30pm. The bus does not run on a Sunday at all.
This bus route services Newlands Estate, which was built for returned serviceman and has a large number of elderly residents. There is also an influx of young families. My constituents tell me the bus is used predominantly by the elderly, mothers with young children, and tourists staying at the Big 4 Melbourne Holiday Park. This bus is the only public transport servicing the Coburg Olympic Swimming Pool and the new Coburg Hill housing development.
It is a very well utilised service and plays a unifying role in the local community, with many drivers knowing the passengers by name and passengers talking to, and looking out for, each other.
All of these groups are very disadvantaged and inconvenienced by the bus not running on a Sunday or at night. The elderly passengers are isolated at home on Sunday when the bus doesn’t run. Tourists staying at the busy Holiday Park have to walk a long way from the Gilbert Road Tramline on Sundays or in the evening after they have been out for the day exploring Melbourne.
Personal safety is also a concern as community members have to walk home from Sydney Road or Gilbert Road at night after the bus service has ceased.
Any action you can take to improve the service of the 526 bus would be greatly appreciated both by me and by local residents.
Yours sincerely,
The Hon KELVIN THOMSON MPMember for Wills

We're jumping on the clearing out bandwagon!!

If you would like any of these things please text Mel on 0404 043 010. I may be able to help transport things in my ute....

This chicken coop is awesome, it's totally fox proof.

We were using this kennel as a nesting box for our chooks, it has a flap for easy egg access.

This microwave works, we inherited another one.
