Merri Creek Birdlife Exhibition with Adi Tudor

Hi I'm Adi, a mum of two and I work as a social worker. I live close to CERES Joe's Garden and the Merri creek. The Merri Creek has become a special place for me, it provides breathing space and a chance to reconnect with nature. During my walks I've been surprised and delighted by the bird life I've encountered. In particular, I've developed an affection for the tawny frogmouths residing just around the corner from Joe's Garden. This love of birds has inspired me to start photographing native Australian birdlife with the Merri creek being one of my favourite places to do this.

It will be a pleasure to have the first sharing of my birdie photos at Joe's Garden on December 10th, surrounded by the flora and fauna that inspires me. I hope you enjoy my contribution.

Adi Tudor.

Be sure to bring some dosh to purchase your very own VERY local Merri birdlife greeting cards.

There will be coffee and tea available on the day, and the Farm Gate stall will be open to sell you very local, fresh and organic vegetables.

Beekeep

Untitled-2

'Beekeep' is little zero waste project I've been working on this past couple o' years.:)It's been a journey for sure, always keeping an eye on improving our methods to zero out waste streams in our home & business. We make Reusable & Biodegradable Beeswax Food Cloth, a natural alternative to 'cling film' or single use kitchen plastics, and attend craft & farmers markets where we engage with diverse communities local & regional.

Working with bulk natural materials, our end product is biodegradable. The cotton fabrics are sourced second/third/fourth hand & we use everything; offcuts, down to the last tattered rag & frayed bits of cotton. We make beeswax sticky tape out of the long edges of our fabrics, & postals go out in handmade bags, plastic free.

Tonight, and the following Fridays leading to Christmas, we will be at the Coburg Night Market.

If you'd like to have a look at our facebook/online, you will find us at :

Mulching this Sunday

Untitled-2

Late Spring greetings!

Our one last working effort for this year will be happening this Sunday 27th of November at a site we - Friends of Coburg Lake and Surrounds - planted out a few years ago now.

Where: Corner of Sydney Rd and Bakers Rd, Coburg North, across from the No. 19 tram terminus
When: Sunday 27/11/16 from 3 – 4 pm
What: Laying down newspaper, cardboard and mulch around the established plants, plus a little bit of hand weeding

What to bring: Please bring any newspapers or cardboard boxes you might have to be placed under the mulch, buckets, wheelbarrows and pitch forks if they are easy enough for you to get there, gloves and sturdy footwear.

I hope you can make it and look forward to seeing you there.

Dog Sitting

Untitled-2

Hi Folks,

We have a very cute King Charles Spaniel (Charlie) and we are going camping from 7th to 21st of Jan - so getting in early to see if anyone would like to have him for a couple of weeks.

He is eight years old, is obedient, quiet, house trained, good with kids, hopeless at tricks and won't play fetch.  He is very loyal and friendly. He likes a walk everyday, but he gets by without one.  He gets on well with other dogs and doesn't bother the chickens.

Cheers,

Ashley

Workshops

Untitled-2

A SONG PROJECT FOR PEACE

Please join us in late November and December at a short series of workshops to create and learn a new song to commemorate peace, and mark the centenary of the 1916 and 1917 votes against conscription in the City of Moreland.

The workshops will be led by well-known community choir leader and composer Stephen Taberner, supported by choir leaders Emily Hayes (Brunswick Rogues) and Jeannie Marsh.

In late 1917 Adela Pankhurst was imprisoned at Pentridge for her anti-war activities. One hot night in January 1918 her supporters gathered outside the prison walls and “ serenaded” her with “The Red Flag” and Solidarity forever”. More people came and there was argy-bargy with the police, and two  arrests . . .

This current project is in two stages. In late November, people can attend a workshop to have a bit of a sing, and explore ideas for the song and its themes. Two weeks later there will be two workshops to learn the song.

Qualifications for attending
Everyone is welcome. We just ask that you email us to RSVP. We'd like you to come to both an “ideas” workshop, and one or both of the learning workshops, but if you can only come to learn the song, that's fine too.

Date and time of the workshops (Maximum 3 workshops)

Ideas workshop. Choose one date. Sunday 27 November, 2pm OR Wed 30 November 7pm

Song learning workshop: Come to one or both: Sunday 11 December 2pm OR Wed 14 December 7pm

Venue: All workshops will be at St Ambrose Community Centre, in the church grounds at 287 Sydney Road Brunswick (just north of the Town Hall).

Please spread the word! Please pass this around social clubs, choirs and bands in the city of Moreland.

* To register (please include what dates you’ll attend), email us at anticonscription1916@gmail.com
* We have flyers.  Please let us know if you can take some to distribute. I can drop off in Brunswick if you send an address.
* Invite people to our Facebook event at www.facebook.com/events/176495042811125/
* Join the song e-list here to keep in touch about future musical events http://eepurl.com/b-R8Lj

What happens next?
  1. We're planning to perform the song in public as soon as it's written (please invite us to your event).
  2. The song will be publicly available to be learnt and sung, with sheet music and audio available online.
  3. We are also planning some larger events in late 1917 and early 2018, to celebrate the centenary of Adela's "serenading".

This project is supported and funded by the Moreland Community Grants program.

It's being organised by a working group of the Brunswick Coburg Anti-Conscription Commemoration Campaign. Join the general e-list here: http://eepurl.com/bFweG5

Best wishes and we hope you can join us,
