It's AGM time!

Dear NECCHi Neighbours and Friends,

You’re warmly invited to our Annual General Meeting (AGM), to be held on Wednesday 25th October at 6pm.

It’s that time of year when we gather our Board, Staff, Volunteers, Members and friends together for our AGM. This is an important event in the NECCHi calendar as we take time to look back and celebrate all the amazing community projects that have been implemented in the past year, recognise the contributions of staff and volunteers, and say thank you to outgoing Board members.

In true NECCHi style, we’ll be hosting this event in the beautiful surrounds of the Wayi Garden at Newlands Neighbourhood House and enjoying good food and great company as we share stories and reflections. We’ll also be electing our Board for the year ahead. The NECCHi Board is responsible for the good governance of our organisation and setting our strategic goals. We couldn’t provide spaces for our community to connect and flourish in without a dedicated Board and are so thankful for the commitment of the NECCHi members who take on this role.

You can RSVP here - we look forward to seeing you there! The NECCHi Team xo

Attention NECCHi Neighbours! If you signed up to our membership program, you have the chance to play a special role at our AGM! As a member, you are entitled to attend and vote on any motions or special resolutions (decisions) at this AGM, including the election of our board for the upcoming year.

Renting Survey

Untitled-2

Exciting news: Applications for Better Renting's Summer Renter Researchers 2024 are opening this Friday, 6 October!

This summer, Better Renting will continue their mission to record temperatures in sweltering Australian rental homes, highlighting the direct effects of substandard, inefficient housing on renters' health and wellbeing.

Renter Researchers is a citizen science project that puts temperature trackers into the homes of renters across Australia. We’re recruiting for new renters to join our Renter Researchers 2023 project.

Over the past three years, national conversations about minimum standards for rental homes have shifted significantly. Through the promotion of compelling renter stories, backed by hard data, Better Renting has gained extensive media coverage—over 150 stories across print, online, radio, and TV news outlets from both their summer and winter Renter Researcher projects. Renter Researchers sent over 30 MP letters in the last project alone. However, there is still much work to be done.

The urgency of this Summer Renter Researchers project cannot be overstated. Temperatures are predicted to hit record highs this year and this will be the last Renter Researcher project before the next federal election. There is a window of opportunity to generate as much impactful data and media attention as possible. Every new participant will create more opportunities for media, MP letters, and advocacy around minimum energy efficiency standards.

Here’s a useful guide to help make this easy for you

Sign up as a Renter Researcher if you’re a renter!

Applications close Friday 27 October.

You can find more information and apply on the Better Renting website. If you have any questions or if you want to know more about sponsoring Renter Researchers, please get in touch.
