Gallery Curator, Victor Griss says: “In conjunction with CLIMARTE’s 2019 program ART+CLIMATE=CHANGE 2019, The Counihan Gallery In Brunswick hosts two exhibitions exploring the complex relationship between humans and the natural environment. Working with the outer world to reveal the inner, the artists in BACKDROP invert the tradition of Western landscape painting to study its objectification and respond to the landscapes that have shaped them, while in A TREE’S WORTH the five artists look at the ways language frames the ways we see the world – questioning paradoxes of language and exploring the role data may play in the human journey of listening to trees while simultaneously celebrating their ‘worth’ in society.”
BACKDROP and A TREES WORTH open at 2 pm on Saturday 27th April at the Counihan Gallery In Brunswick. The exhibitions run until Sunday 26th May.

Extremely Long Walk for Climate Action

Untitled-2

I would like to formally invite you to the Coburg Departure Event for My Extremely Long Walk for Climate Action.

This April/May, I will be walking from my home in Melbourne to Parliament House in Canberra (approx. 700kms!) to protest our country's inaction on climate change.

I will be setting out on April 20th, and would love for you to come see me off! The event will entail a few short speeches, and photos with media, before we all move off as a group - you are invited to accompany me on my way to the first stop for as long as you are able/willing!

The event will take place on April 20th from 9am at the Coburg Lake Stage.

Please RSVP either by responding to this email, and/or joining the Facebook event at https://www.facebook.com/events/789496381422417/

Look forward to seeing you there!

All the best,

Shannon Loughnane of 'My Extremely Long Walk for Climate Action'.

Prom Coast Food Collective

Untitled-2

Why do we do what we do?

We do what we do on the Collective as we do not want our food supply to be in the hands of corporations, who put profit before people, the environment and nutrition.

The concentration of power erodes diversity, shuts out small producers from the means of production and commodifies primary produce.

The increased homogenisation of food is, well, boring. Put simply. Boring for your tastebuds, harmful to biodiversity, and downright devastating for rural and regional communities.

Supporting family farms directly mitigates against this. It really really really does. You are POWERFUL in your ability to use your consumer dollar more wisely. 'Local food' isn't new...it isn't a gimmick...food produced by farming families reduces food miles, food waste, encourages organic and regenerative land stewardship, invigorates communities and strengthens relationships in families, consumers and the relationship one has to what nourishes you. All food used to be this way.

Small tweaks often. Start shopping for food differently. One change at a time. Get to know one farmer per month by name and ask them how they're doing whilst you pick up your milk, eggs, bacon, apples, olive oil, cheese, chicken.

You'll eat better and see the world differently. And don't we all want that?

IF YOU DON'T RECEIVE A CONFIRMATION EMAIL IMMEDIATELY AFTER PLACING YOUR ORDER THEN YOUR ORDER MAY NOT HAVE COME THROUGH TO US. ALWAYS FEEL FREE TO CONTACT US IF YOU'RE CONFUSED ABOUT THE ORDERING PROCESS.

Remember...every dollar you spend with the PCFC goes straight into the producers' pockets.
