Frog Census

Hi Newlands Community,
Thought this might be of interest to some – a good activity for those budding Attenborough’s.
 Regards,

Frog Census 2012/2013
Melbourne Water are hosting a frog census 2012/2013 and I encourage you to participate. The next census is during the month of April and August.
Help us find which frog species live where – across the Melbourne region, and help us complete our frog puzzle.
The Frog Census Program is asking community scientists just like you to collect frog data by monitoring their calls.
This year we are introducing a new project with different methodology from previous years, in order to obtain high quality scientific data in specific areas which can be used by Melbourne Water.
For those who have previously been involved in the Frog Census and already collect data at their own site, or just want to record in their local area, we still want this information. For those interested in the new project, we have a number of specific sites which have been identified by Melbourne Water as areas of particular interest for determining frog populations.

All scientific data we collect will be added to the Atlas of Living Australia database and be used to help make decisions in Melbourne Water’s river rehabilitation program.
Data can be collected at any time of year. However we’re particularly interested in frog calls now – April and August this year.

To find out more visit the Get Involved page at: www.frogs.melbournewater.com.au

Please pass on to your friends and check out the map on our website to see if there’s a specific frog monitoring site near you. If there’s not a site close by, please continue to monitor at your local waterway. ALL frog data is very valuable to us.
Thank you and happy recording, The Frog Census Team, Melbourne Water, frogs@melbournewater.com.au
