Herdshare

Untitled-2

Hi all SCOFFers,

We are rolling out a new innovative concept, called Herdshare.  It is a common practice in good food communities in the US, and

I am hoping to coordinate a number of pilots here in Australia.

We run a chemical free farm in Bonnie Doon, and harvest our own meat, particularly beef, lamb, will be chicken, and some other 'native' sorts, as well as rabbit.

The beef and lamb are part of the Herdshare - with lamb currently on offer.   Beef should be available by end of May.

The way it works, is you invest/own a ewe (up to a limited number), that is due to lamb in the Winter.  We go 50/50 on the progeny, if she has twins, or divide the carcass 50/50 if there is only one in exchange for agistment, and care of the animal (less culling fee).

Some folks intend to take their share as meat, others as progeny to grow their own, some prefer to roll the money over to invest in such a good food concept.

There are just a few sheep still available, currently we have a herd of Wiltipoll Sheep (full shedders), around 40, complete with their alpaca guards.  We run a farm along the Joel Salatin model, and hope to expand it over the coming months to include eggs, and possibly (??) raw milk too (also sold on a share basis, not as raw milk!).  It is chemical free, we don't use any off farm inputs, and are building our soils, and increasing our soil biology through a fixed and strict stock rotation system.

Contact me if you are interested - for further information, or if you are just interested in the concept.

Kind Regards,
