Foxes?

Untitled-2

On Tuesday night, my dog and I walked a route we've walked many times before between the old Kodak site and Edgar's Creek. It was dark, but not that late - about 8:30pm. There's a dog that always barks, but this time we heard another animal cry as well and my dog started growling, wouldn't stop and wouldn't move for a good couple of minutes. Once he did move, it was to backtrack & regularly look behind himself. He definitely did not want to meet whatever it was and he was not comfortable until we reached the nearest road.

The sound we heard is consistent with the cry of a red fox. I've seen them around, but never making sounds. If you frequent the area, you may want to exercise caution - red foxes are shy and unlikely to attack a dog or human unless cornered, but I'm wondering if there could be a den with young and the adults might be more protective than usual.
