Restore funding for climate action

The 9 July council meeting axed $100,000 from the Moreland Council’s 2014/2015 budget for climate action. The cut is likely to mean that the planned solar power system for the Coburg Leisure Centre will not proceed.
Originally, it was proposed that $525,000 be allocated to the council’s carbon management budget. This money was to fund the expansion of the council’s solar PV program on council buildings as well as energy efficiency measures.
Moreland council’s carbon management strategy only began in 2011.
A Climate Action Moreland public meeting of 80 people on 7 August voted to call on the council to restore the $100,000 to the carbon management strategy.
Join the protest outside the next Moreland Council meeting to let the councillors know that you want the $100,000 restored to fight climate change.
