Expressions of Interest to Join the Darebin Women’s Advisory Committee are now open!
Darebin Council is seeking expressions of interest from women who would like to join the Darebin Women’s Advisory Committee. The Committee is made up of women who live, work of study in the City of Darebin. Members act as a bridge between women in Darebin and Council, providing advice and guidance on how Council policies, services, programs, events and celebrations can better respond to women in our community.
Appointments to the committee are for a period of two years and the Committee will meet at Council’s offices a minimum of four times a year. Applications are now open and close on COB 23 January 2015.

Darebin Says NO to Family Violence
25th November marks the UN’s International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women & White Ribbon Campaign. It also marks the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence which finished this week on December 10 2014. Each year Council recognises the devastating impact of violence against women, and strengthens efforts to end violence against women completely. This year, we recognised this preventing violence against women campaign with a number of activities:
· Over 100 community, staff and local organisations joined us to March to the Oval to Say No to Family Violence on 25 November
· Council launched its workplace Family Violence Policy Video – outlining Darebin’s commitment to supporting staff and creating a workplace that models respect and non-violence
· Council erected the Darebin Says No to Family Violence banner on Preston City Hall (photo attached).
· Council contributed to a range of social media to share a strong message of the importance of ending violence against women
· There were a number of internal activities that providing opportunity for staff to strengthen their knowledge of how their can contribute to preventing violence against women through their own work.
Victorian Women’s Trust General Grants Program Open
Since 1985, the Victorian Women’s Trust has granted nearly $6 million, for over 500 projects benefiting thousands of women and girls across Victoria. The 2015 General Grants Program is now open. Applications close 2 February 2015. For details see grants guidelines and application form.
