Dear Newlands community

An enormous thank you to all who came along to the ‘Food for Thought’ community engagement sessions held at the Newlands Community House Tuesday 21 April and Sunday 26 April.
What a wonderful and inspiring group of people the Newlands Community is . You brought your excitement, enthusiasm, ideas, interests and passion!

What came out of these sessions was the following:

·         You love your community house and you want to participate in many different ways!
·         You want to share your skills and time with your community.
·         You want to connect and have a great time with your community.
·         You want to attend activities that are beneficial to you and your community.
·         You want to feel safe, respected, included and you want to have fun!

Some of the interest areas mentioned:

·         Community lunches/dinners/BBQs
·         Food and clothes swaps
·         Movie nights/games nights/music events/storytelling
·         Book exchange
·         Gardening and cooking
·         Computer/digital skills
·         Dancing/singing/learn to play instruments
·         Creative activities
·         School holiday activities and after hours activities
·         Homework club and playgroups
·         Bicycle maintenance and skills
·         Social enterprise/small business support/makers markets/garage sales
·         First aid and food handling
·         self care and wellbeing/gentle exercise
·         Information sessions on social issues and concerns/interests/discussion groups/women’s circle

Please keep bringing your ideas to the house so it may keep developing in the way you want it to.

Current activities at the community house:

Mondays         9.30 am – 11.30 am      -  Playgroup – all welcome (facilitated by Helen)
Mondays         11 am – 2 pm               -  Drop In Time and there is also access to computers and wiifi
Tuesdays          10 am - 12 noon          - Open gardening session (starts Tuesday 12 May)
Thursdays         9.30 am – 3 pm             - Open sewing, knitting, crochet and craft session – some machines and materials can be provided (starts Thursday 14 May)
