Recycling in Moreland

Untitled-2

Exciting initiative No#1 - do you have a small electrical appliance that needs rescuing?
For anyone who has a small electrical appliance they are no longer use or maybe it’s broken and you’ve not been sure what to do with it, we have a solution for you... Moreland is proud to announce the Bright Sparks Pop-Up Donation Bins.
From this week Moreland residents can donate their old, unwanted and broken small electrical appliances in new donation bins located at the Coburg and Brunswick Customer Service Centres and the Newlands Community House in Coburg North.
There are also a further 11 locations across Moreland’s partnering local council’s in this pilot project (Boroondara, Darebin, Whittlesea and Yarra). As a pilot project the donation bins will be available until late February 2016 and will accept a range of small appliances. For a donation bin locations and a list of what you can donate visit Bright Sparks Australia.
Please note - Maximum of 3 small items per person
(Larger quantities and large appliances can be taken to Bright Sparks HQ in Hadfield).
Where is Bright Sparks HQ? It’s located at 1 Walter Street, Hadfield (next door to Council’s Operations Centre). They have been open for 3 months now and have been receiving an amazing array of small electrical appliances. Carloads of kettles, irons and vacuums, some kooky vintage toasters and fans. In all over 1000 appliances have ‘flown’ through the door.
For more information about the pilot project please visit Council’s website.

Exciting initiative No#2 - need help recycling? Have the answers right at your fingertip with SustainMe app.
Moreland’s Waste Services is proud to announce its support of a great new recycling app called SustainMe - a new, free and user-friendly recycling app.
The initiative of two young, enthusiastic Melbournians, Eleanor and Stephen, they set up their own social enterprise, Sustain Me Group, to see their brilliant idea come to fruition. They now have a team working with them and have recently launched the free app that can help you to easily look up what and where to recycle items like batteries, coffee cups, meat trays, plastic bags... almost anything you can think.
The app will identify the local council you are in and for those located in a local council that supports SustainMe (so far Moreland, Moonee Valley, Mornington Peninsula and Whittlesea) you will get up-to-date and accurate information on their recycling services. Another great bonus for those in supporting Council’s - bin night notifications and links to sustainability themed events and programs in your council.
For all your recycling answers, download the app from the Google Play or App Stores.
Contact SustainMe for more information.
