WRITING THROUGH FENCES operates as a writing and art based group focused on promoting the voices of artists and writers in immigration detention. Essential to this is the building of creative relationships that enable writers and artists to explore and continue their work whilst supporting each other in detention.

The name refers to the ability of writers and artists to reach beyond fences and walls that attempt to contain, define and silence them.
