Going Off-Grid: Back to the Land Encounters
in Australia
Seeking Participants for Oral
History Research for a PhD thesis at La Trobe University,
The research is
seeking to interview a range of people who have sought to return to a more
'natural' form of living and who have made the move out of cities onto rural or
semi-rural blocks across Australia from the 1940s until today.
A particular focus
will be anyone who would like to share the story of their back-to-the-land
experiences prior to 1972 in an individual or communal arrangement. I am interested
in a variety of stories, including religious or survival oriented experiences. Central to the thesis are the ideas of
“self-sufficiency” and “nature engagement” and participants will be asked
questions around these topics.
Interviews can be
conducted anonymously at the participant’s request. Research will be conducted
in Southern Queensland, NSW, Victoria and Tasmania at the participants’ home,
property or at a local library or meeting place.
