Hi FoEC'ers and Friends,
We are primed to get our hands into the dirt again this Sunday.
I don't have a heap of information on this planting like I normally would as it is organised by Moreland City Council and for those that know our usual scheduling - it is not 1-3PM!!!. Some brief details are as follows:
Sunday 31 July 2016, 10.00am–12.30pm. Planting: National Tree Day with Moreland City Council – along the fence line heading up the escarpment from the Kodak bridge. Hosted by the Moreland City Council (Phone Vince [MCC] on 8311 4386). Meet at the Kodak bridge/escarpment area, west side of the creek – from Danthonia St (Melways Map 18 A8).
There will be a BBQ after the planting and this will likely be set up near the Kodak bridge on the west side of the creek.
On another topic - FoEC members have been offered discount tickets to a Q & A panel/theatre production. I've copied details as I received them into the email below. Note the closing date for the discount and the need for the discount code:
Creating a Climate For Change, Melbourne Playback’s next Q&A panel event is rapidly approaching; an event proudly presented in partnership with Darebin Climate Action Now. As a friend or member of a local sustainability group, we have an early bird ticket offer for you. Creating a Climate For Change will explore climate solutions, action, and what it means to live in a warming world. Intertwining theatre performance with Q&A panel discussion, the event will be looking at how current climate solutions can change our lives and communities in positive ways. Theatre will offer a unique way to find the humour and humanity when looking at an issue that we all very much share.
We bring together three panelists who all implement practical solutions on a daily basis through their work:
Professor Rob Adams AM, Director City Design and Projects, City of Melbourne. Rob approaches urban planning and design through the lens of making Melbourne a more pleasant place to live in ways that greatly reduce the city’s climate footprint, in part by reducing reliance on cars. His design contribution also prepares for climate change by greening (and thereby cooling) the city.
Lucy Best, Communications and Community Engagement Manager with Positive Charge. Lucy works with businesses, households and government – to reduce emissions, save money and be more energy independent.
Dr Stephen Bygrave, CEO of Beyond Zero Emissions, a Melbourne based think-tank. Stephen works on research and education of big-picture plans for how Australia can rapidly move to zero emissions. He works with councils and other groups on making the transition rewarding and highly achievable.
About that early bird price – we are offering $5 off full price tickets and all concession tickets student prices, for the next week for our friends and subscribers only. Offer expires Sunday 31st July.
When: Thursday 11th August
Where: Northcote Town Hall, 189 High Street, Northcote.
Tickets: $25 / $18 ($20 full $15 concession with subscriber code: 350)

Here’s some of the feedback on a recent Melbourne Playback Q&A panel event:
“Playback theatre is certainly not your usual black box theatre experience, but if the standing ovation that MPTC received at the end of this provocative performance is anything to go by, it is an incredibly rewarding one.” - Theatrepeople (SticksnStones - May, 2016)
This event is proudly supported by Darebin Council’s Community Support Program.
The event is run on a non-profit basis.
