PRANAYAMA/ CONSCIOUS BREATHING COURSE OVER CHRISTMAS - BE REJUVENATED

Hello community,

Would you like to learn about the Indian yogic practices of deep breathing and mind stilling in the form of Pranayama?

It is a generally agreed upon truth across the disciplines that conscious breathing brings with it a host of benefits.

Pranayama (breathwork) is the ancient tool understood by yogis as the one simplest route to controlling the mind to strengthen meditation. In addition a regular short Pranayama practice reaps other benefits: increased freedom from anxiety, the elimination of physical ailments (for example: headaches, stomach-knots, tight muscles, insomnia, the habitual "slouch") and the experience of a subtle but intensely felt improved sense of well-being.

Over the Christmas period there are two 4-day pranayama courses being run to in Fitzroy and Brunswick. The cost proposed is $140/$160 per person but open to reduction to those to whom the cost is prohibitive.

What does the course offer?

  • Four 3 hour morning sessions from 9am-12pm taught by Bryan Rogers, a seventy-year old New Zealand Iyengar trained yoga teacher who has been committed to the daily practice of  pranayama for many years and has been teaching a specifically pranayama class for the past three years in Melbourne's Dance of Life studio
  • A talk on the 3000 year history of Pranayama and the theory and benefits of pranayama  on day 1 (accompanied by a take home handout)
  • A detailed description of the anatomy of breathing (accompanied by slides and a handout)
  • A recommendation of key yoga poses for opening the chest
  • Presentation of two mantras and their role in meditation practice
  • Detailed instruction on five types of breathing exercises
  • Plenty of time to sit, lie and breathe!

The dates are  28th-31st December 2016 and 3rd - 6th January 2017. Please see the flyer below or ring Bryan on 0429 413 049 for more info and booking.
