Help Louise Rebuild her Home

Untitled-2

Earlier this week, my dear friend Louise's house and artist studio was razed to the ground, thankfully she wasn't home but she lost EVERYTHING, except her beloved old deaf and blind dog, Kimba. Louise has been surviving off an invalid pension due to her painful rheumatoid arthritis and doing what art work she can to keep her creative spirit alive, this fire has come as a terrible blow to her as the property was, regrettably, not insured. My friend Louise has always given of herself to help others. She has ridden a postie bike from Brisbane to Darwin collecting money for underprivileged children in Cambodia. Only a couple of years ago, she arranged for a collective of women to work at her home and we all prepared birthing kits for Cambodian women so their birthing experience would be a safe and hygienic one. Louise has always given so much of herself to others so now l am asking her friends and mine and the greater community, please support Louise to get back on her feet.
As Louise has lost EVERYTHING, we are asking you do donate what you can as Louise has to start again from scratch to rebuild her home and her life, not an easy task for anyone to do.
Thank you to everyone for your generosity, good wishes and love, Louise is overwhelmed and humbled.

Pokémon Event

Untitled-2

Hi Everyone,

Earlier I posted about a catch up for kids who would like to be involved or have some ideas for a Pokémon event at the Newlands Community House on Saturday 21 October at 2.30-4.30pm.

The date and time I suggested clashes with the grand final! So let's make it the next day, Sunday 1 October at 3pm, Cox Reserve.

Hope to see some families there! Equally looking forward to seeing kids and their families at the event on Saturday 21 October. Kids, please bring an adult with you.

Cheers, Kirsty 0431 609 586.

Sonorous Circle

Untitled-2

Presents:
I.RYOKO (NZ)
The Convoy, OK EG & Maria Moles/Loretta Wilde/Miranda Liebsher

$10 - Doors 8pm - Sat 14th October @ Magnet Spatial Studio

Facebook Event

I.RYOKO (NZ) explores cathartic, ecstatic & transcendental sound. Intuitive compositions of synth, samplers and voice seek to envelop the listener with immense, evolving drones and kaleidoscopic layers of rhythm and melody. The result is often lush and meditative, at times intense or cataclysmic.

The project is that of Thomas Lambert, a New Zealand-based artist with a background in composition, audio engineering, film and theatre sound.

RIYL: Oneohtrix Point Never, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, Steve Reich, Stars of the Lid.

OK EG is the experimental music and visual art project of two Melbourne based producers, Lauren Squire and Matthew Wilson. Exploring ambient techno with an emphasis on hypnotic rhythms and organic textures, the pair have forged a unique musical bond.

Wavelength was first performed for an epic 12 hours at White Night Melbourne 2017. Combining liquid analog projection with an immersive ambient soundscape, the work invites viewers into a deeply introspective light and sound world.

Maria Moles (drums), Loretta Wilde (bass/vocals) & Miranda Liebsher (electronics/vocals) - FIRST GIG! Dogs on the loose. Live musical ideas.
Prepare to enter the eye of the storm of this musical tornado. That is exactly the imagery that is evoked by this catastrophic trio. All members grew up on a boat in international waters but now live together in Melbourne in a yacht in the docklands. We’re out of fuel and we can’t leave.

THE CONVOY conducts vast luminous orchestral atmospheres by way of real-time processing of electric guitar and electro-acoustic percussives via ¼” tape.

Atmospheres immerse and envelop via abstracted, organic and mesmeric audio visual emissions. Here exists a static surface tension, perpetually and intimately comforting, only to be inevitably obliterated by sheer and momentous walls of noise.

Sonorous Circle would like to acknowledge the Wurundjeri people as the traditional custodians of the land that this event is on and pay our respects to Elders past, present and future.

See you there!
Also this week at Magnet ..

That's right - this Friday, rehearse at Magnet and pay whatever you like! Make a booking, pay as you feel on the day. It's really easy.

PAYF runs from midday to 6pm, and doesn't include hire gear.  We are still open from 6pm - Midnight at our usual rates. If you miss out this time - no stress, it's the last Friday of every month !

Is this your Chook?

She was found wandering around Ballard Ave. I have had her now for 5 days and she wants to go home. If she's yours, please get in touch so I can return her.

Donations Appreciated

Untitled-2

Donations appreciated.

Hi Newlanders,

I am working with a 16 y.o. young man with profound autism and a range of other disabling factors.  The organisation I’m working with has developed a sensory room for him, but the NDIS has only stretched so far….
So, his wonderful O.T. has suggested we look for the following donations of arty /crafty stuff…
Chalk, paints, beads, fabric, pipe-cleaners, sequins, glue, scented candles (not to be lit), or other scented stuff, relaxation CDs (not speaking or guided mediation stuff, just the tunes), foam shaped items – the sort of thing that if it is thrown at you, it wont hurt!

Also, he may benefit from a hammock to sling up for calming, rhythmic movement.

If you are spring cleaning and have spare art stuff, please drop it off at 30 Ballard Ave Coburg North. We don’t have much space for storage, so if donations could please stay within the above suggestions, that is, he doesn’t need clothes or household items.

Thanks heaps in advance, Gigi.

Kid Wrangling 101

Untitled-2

Hey there neighbours. I've just launched a new online resource for parents. Check it out and let me know what you think.

When you look for resources on parenting, you’ll find plenty of advice on caring for your kids.

Sometimes, you might find some support for your emotional health as a parent.

But rarely, if ever, does anyone talk about the practical basics of physically handling your kids and the daily demands of parenting.

I’m Michael Cann, a Feldenkrais Practitioner and movement teacher. I’m also a proud father of two beautiful kids.

At Kid Wrangling 101, I combine my love of parenting with years of experience helping people overcome long-term pain problems by moving better.

All too often I work with people who started getting pain during pregnancy or in the early years of parenting. Decades later, they come to me wondering why their problems have gotten worse rather than better.

I don’t want that to be you, so I created Kid Wrangling 101 to share what I know about looking after yourself while taking care of your kids.

Visit Kid Wrangling 101 here: www.kidwrangling101.com

Fun & engaging Dance classes for children?

I am looking for an enigmatic dance teacher who would like to or who already does teach creative dance to 7-10 year olds. I am looking for a movement class with a bit less structure, I don’t mind the classics, jazz, ballet or tap dance involved but I would like it to be creative and fun with a possible performance at the end of the term/year where they have choreographed with the help of their mindful teacher to give them something to aspire to.

If somebody knows of this elusive class or teacher, preferably in the Newlands, Preston, Coburg or Reservoir area could they please inform me? Or if you are a teacher with these skills and are looking for a class, we could probably drum up a few students to start off with. Even if you are a student of dance and are looking for some income and was thinking about starting a class, maybe now’s the time!

Am looking to start kids in next term if these classes become available.

Please call/text Jo on 0432 361 038 with any information please.
