Friends of Edgar's Creek

Untitled-2

Hello again FoEC'ers and Friends,

Well we're about to put another planting season behind us! Go FoEC.

This Sunday we are hosting our annual "Christmas in September" with a planting and follow-up celebration of another great years work (though I hasten to add that we still have two maintenance activities scheduled for 2017).

The site will be easily accessed this time around; forecast is a 'pearla' with sunny and 16 degrees forecast. Hopefully the forecast is spot on this week because if it is we will have a wet week ahead with the weekend becoming fine for Sundays sunshine. I'm going to recommend sun protection to all - the kids have the spring hat rule at school and based on my nose getting burnt on Sunday when I was drilling holes; hats and sunscreen please.

Details for Sunday are as follows -

Sunday, 17 September 2017, 1-3 pm (“Christmas Party”).

Planting: Stream bank grassland restoration around the remnant red gum at the Silurian cliff site.

Hosted by the FoEC, Planting funded by Melbourne Water Community Grant and Christmas celebrations funded by the FoEC.

Meet at the Silurian Cliff site – access via Cnr of Spectrum Way and Red Box St (down the steps) North Coburg.

I haven't got an easily accessed version of the plant list for this email; suffice to say we will be going pretty hard in the usual FoEC fashion. We have some patches of boggy area that will be planted very thick with juncus (a rush, we plant it "rice paddy style" in some boggy patches) and the total number of plants will be up around the 800 should we choose to plant them! (all holes are already drilled so just the planting and bagging to do on the day. And there is no expectation that you work yourself to the ground; do as much or as little as you can as every bit counts.

See you on the creek!
And a huge thanks to everyone who has helped in any way throughout 2017.
Go FoEC!

Regards,
David Pavone
