Hi FoEC'ers and Friends,
This is my first email for 2018 to this list after a bit of time away from my paid and volunteer work to start 2018, though this week marks my return to work and also I better get busy with FoEC activities too (not to say that I haven't been doing some things already). I hope 2018 has been good for you to date.
The main purpose of my email is to alert you to our pending Annual General Meeting for 2018. This will be held at the Edgars Creek Parklands near the former pedestrian crossing a.k.a the foot bridge the flood washed out a while back on Sunday March 4th 2018. The AGM will commence at 12 noon. As per our constitution, all positions on the committee (President, Secretary and Treasurer) are vacated annually so any applications for these positions are most welcome (though read below). Should we see rain on the day, head to the Kodak bridge for shelter - that's where we will be.
I wish to draw people's attention to our "new" memberships. We previously maintained a membership database with a nominal joining fee. This was dropped for a few reasons, however we have recognised a need to reinstate a formal membership (which has no cost attached, though donations are always welcome!). Your membership of FoEC will clearly indicate your support of our objectives (these can be read on our website). Further, it enables you the right to stand for our committee and also to vote at the AGM (oh the things you discover when you review your constitution!).
As you are all already on this email list, you will continue to receive my email updates and any new members will have the option to provide and email address for this purpose.I stress that we will never provide your details to a third party for marketing or advertising purposes. For more information and to register as a member, please go to our membership page on the FoEC website: http://foec.org.au/membership/
In other news, we have been successful in obtaining another round of Melbourne Water Community Grant funding. We will hopefully start works with this money soon when we receive the funds. This will enable me to distribute the calendar for 2018 so stay tuned - this should be out in the next week or two depending on the timing of the arrival of our grant $$.
I look forward to seeing you on the Creek sooner rather than later!
Also check out this article on the benefits of being in the bush/dirt. If you are not getting permission to get to the creek fight back with science based arguments about your well being - something that will put you at odds with our politicians!! (we have no science ministry at the national level) www.abc.net.au/news/science/2018-02-05/nature-park-forest-immune-system-inflammation-mental-health/9387714

David Pavone
